For the 3/8" -16 rods, they cannot be joined together like the 1/4"-20 rods, right?
Asked by: Zhenyu
The Matthews MICROgrip Rod (20") is like the smaller rods but uses a 3/8 inch thread not the smaller 1/4 thread.

Can they be used in a standard 2.5 grip head? If so, which would you recommend?
Asked by: RP
The Matthews MICROgrip Rod (3/8"-16 Male to Male, 20") does not work in a standard grip head. It is made to work with the Matthews MICROgrip Head, BH #MAMGHQ (https://bhpho.to/4ubURq3).

question

What's the diameter of the rods? Are they compatible with 15mm rod systems?
Asked by: James M.
Can I assume you are asking about the thread diameter? The female and male threads at opposite ends of the rod are 1/4 x20. I used the rods as an extension into the mid-section of my Apollo flash modifiers to put the tilt function outside of the modifiers, by adding 5/8 threaded adapters on each end to bridge-the-distance between the flash at the center of the modifier and the light stand articulated adapters, to tilt the Apollo. An inexpensive mini-boom to articulate the mod.

question

Other than the Matthews 4 rod for MICROgrip applications, do any of their other rods 6 , 8 , 12 , 20 ) come with a 3/8-16 threaded male stud? All photos appear to indicate that their longer rods are only tapped with a 3/8-16 female, but not a 3/8-16 male.
Asked by: Doug
I have 4, 6, 8, 12, and 20 inch MICROgrip rods, with 4-8 pieces in each size. They all have Male threads on one side, and Female threads on the other, allowing you to screw them together to make any length necessary. I heavily rely on this feature for various car mount configurations, especially for stabilizing the top of the camera. I sometimes also use extra MICROgrip rods down to the car floor for over-the-shoulder car mount shots. For mounting the bottom of the camera cheese plate to the suction cups, I usually use the larger 5/8 rods, but adding extra MICROgrip rods to that basic mount makes it rock solid.
