Oben CTM-2400 overview

  • 1Description

The Oben CTM-2400 4-Section Carbon Fiber Monopod is an extremely lightweight yet sturdy one-legged camera support that enables you to capture steady shots without needing to carry or set up a full tripod. The monopod has an anti-rotation shaft, so its twist locks can be disengaged all at once to deploy each leg stage instantly, making setup a breeze. Maximum height is 59.2", which facilitates comfortable operation for most users.

The CTM-2400 is composed of 6x carbon fiber to achieve its light weight (a mere 0.85 lb) while ensuring its stability. It can bear loads up to 22 lb, so you can mount any DSLR camera with most lenses, a point & shoot model, or even a camcorder.

For fine control over camera orientation, you can also attach a head to the monopod's reversible 3/8"-16 & 1/4"-20 mounting screw. Three set screws underneath the collar enable you to fasten the head securely to the plate. An Allen key is included & attached to the top leg section, so you're always ready to make adjustments.

The monopod collapses to just 18.3", so you can stow it in most carry-on bags. At only 0.85 lb, it's the perfect travel companion – lightweight, compact, and simple to operate – but highly capable and ready in an instant to help you capture the perfect shot.

Reversible 1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 screw for mounting any camera or head
Metal spike emerges from rubber foot, for extra stability in grass, gravel, and other loose terrain
Foam grip protects your camera by ensuring that your grip doesn't slip
For a second line of security and more stable shooting, wrap the attached strap snugly around your wrist
Wrist strap features belt clip for convenient hands-free carrying

    Oben CTM-2400 reviews

CTM-2400 4-Section Carbon Fiber Monopod is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 57.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid monopod, good price So far I have been very pleased with the Oben CTM-2400. I am primarily using this monopod to stabilize and bear the weight of a moderate-sized lens (EF 400mm f/5.6) while taking wildlife photos. The legs lock and unlock fairly easily, and I prefer the twist-lock design to flip- or screw-locks. The weight is nice, and I have not had any problems with the max height of the monopod. I'm about 5'8, but if you are significantly taller, maybe more than 6'2, you may want an additional leg section depending on your shooting style. Overall, this is a great value, entry-level carbon monopod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from REALLY Good Product I have used a monopod successfully for years and finally decided to go with a carbon fiber one to save weight. I chose this Oben 4-section model and I am very pleased I did. It is quite well made, easy to use, and works perfectly with my Canon 6D. It feels very solid and the twist locks operate smoothly and quickly, a bit of a surprise. On top of it I use a Manfrotto 234RC tilt head which I have come to know is quicker and easier to use than a fully-functioned ball head. This combination makes for a refreshingly lightweight and useful tool; and the price is very user-friendly, too!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good not great I'm writing this from a sports photographer pov. 1) The ability to shoot with long heavy lenses, 2) quick set up/breakdown, 3) stability, 4) portability and 5) durability are all important. 1) Long Lenses. Surprisingly I was able to shoot up to canon's 600mm f/4 which is 12lbs + the camera's weight, from a moving boat. 300mm f/2.8 mk2 is the perfect match, and the 500mm f/4 is a better match (because it's lighter) than the 400mm f/2.8. (all lenses are MK1 unless specified). Overall, surprisingly impressed, but can be improved for the bigger lenses. 2) Quick set up. As with all screw type monopods, is a hassle and not as quick as the locking monopods. I have painfully pinched my fingers between sections several times because it wasn't fully tightened. but when you are consistently on the move, there are going to be times where you don't fully tighten. I've found the rubber grip on the screw to wear down contributing to the quickness of set up (more on this later). Overall fails in the quick set up. 3) Stability. on the bigger heavier lenses the the 300 2.8 mk2, i found it to be not as stable, I i've felt like I need a thicker monopod. I've also found that unlike the Manfroto heads, the head on this Oben gets loose and can cause the shoe of the lense to shake, which when shooting telephotos, is annoying because every little movement is magnified by the focal length. this problem may be a durability problem but overall fails in stability for anything 400mm +. Useable yes, but there's better. 4) Portability. LOVE! very light, very compact- can fit comfortably in any travel bag. the strap is very well positioned with a clip that allows the monopod to be tethered onto you waist or backpack. Overall, definitely wins in Portability 5) Durability. This one is 50-50. The carbon fiber after a year of heavy use doesnt even have a scratch or ding. the individual sections are still strong. The strap and clip are very strong. the rubber base worn down to the height of the metal spike (which is very annoying when on hard surfaces) The rubber grips slip off the screw part all the time after a month of first using. the foam grip still is in tact surprisingly- it damaged in the first month but hasn't gotten worse. The head seems a bit loose from regular usage. Overall- i give it 51-49; after all I still use this monopod to today, though I have the urge to get a backup in a different brand. For the price compared to the other Carbon fibers it is value! but for the sports shooters, expect some problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Winner Tried the five section which flexed. The four section is sturdy and is the winner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light for heavy load Light and sturdy enough to carry heavy load. Used it with medium format camera mounted with 70-200 mm/2.8 with 1.4 TC to shoot racing go-karts. Helped a lot to support weight of the camera and lens and enabled me to move about with ease as well. Great to use when taking pictures of fast moving subjects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for wide range of uses I got this to have a lightweight, sturdy monopod for travel as well as for general use to replace a heavy Manfrotto (and I don't know why I waited so long). From the literature I was concerned that the design might be specific for travel, but I'm finding this is the perfect balance of light weight and sturdy design for everywhere, anytime use. Seriously confident with D750 and 70-210/2.8, but light enough for taking anywhere, anytime - and I do. It is normally paired with a BA113-T due to this combination's light weight, slim profile and single-action function. Also have the B&H combo VR-2 since the set is a good value, and the VR-2 works well on my other monopods. The mechanics are excellent - the extensions and head work smoothly and confidently. It's only been a couple weeks, but at this point I am very pleased to have and to recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A real bargain A nice solid monopod with no flex, quick and easy to deploy. The price is great! The retractable metal spike on the bottom is a nice touch, overall well designed and well made.
