Designed as a complete microphone setup for location recording in budget film work and broadcasting, electronic news gathering (ENG), and field production applications, this B&H Kit eliminates the guesswork in configuring a shotgun microphone system that delivers broadcast quality, sharp directivity, and low handling noise. It features the Audio-Technica BP4073 phantom-powered shotgun microphone, a furry windshield, a universal shoe/pole shockmount, a graphite cabled boompole, a boompole bag, and short and long right-angled XLR cables to provide the you with everything necessary for capturing audio for video, film, and sound design applications.

Audio-Technica BP4073 Shotgun Microphone

Use the Audio-Technica BP4073 shotgun microphone to capture broadcast-quality sound with directivity rivaling significantly longer shotgun mics. Ideal for indie films, TV shoots, and documentary projects, the BP4073 boasts professional-level features such as low-noise circuitry, a direct-coupled output, and extremely high SPL handling, all of which contribute to its clean signal across a broad range of output levels.

The BP4073's high sensitivity allows it to produce a strong output without requiring extreme gain at your mic preamp. With a selectable low-cut filter and a -10 dB pad, the BP4073 is capable of delivering clear, distortion-free sound due even on intensely loud sound sources. Plus, its full-spectrum frequency response utilizes a gentle increase in high frequencies to enhance intelligibility.

The rugged aluminum alloy housing ensures rugged dependability while maintaining an ultralight weight that won't burden your boompole or camera, and the included accessories accommodate mounting the BP4073 to a mic stand, boompole, or camera-mount microphone holder.

Rivals Long-Tube Shotgun Microphones
Though only approximately 9.2" long, the BP4073 offers the directivity of microphones up to 50% longer than it. This is accomplished through the use of a special Audio-Technica design that grants the BP4073's interference tube a narrow acceptance angle.
Broadcast-Quality Sound
The BP4073 was built to produce broadcast-quality sound. Its direct-coupled balanced output provides clean signal even in high-output conditions; the balanced topology also allows longer cable runs than typical unbalanced camera-mount mics afford.

The supercardioid polar pattern yields focused on-axis directionality with maximum rear-entry sound rejection. Its low self-noise of 13 dBA and highly sensitive condenser element communicate detailed audio unburdened by the hiss that plagues many low-cost microphones.
Customizable Tone
Activate the 80 Hz low-cut filter to reduce low-frequency noise from common sources such as air conditioners and traffic. Switch on the -10 dB pad to attenuate the input level when loud sound sources threaten to distort your recording.
Phantom Powered
Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output and 48 VDC phantom powering, the BP4073 is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters, as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.
Ideal for Boompole Mounting
The BP4073 includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the BP4073 in the Audio-Technica AT8415 shockmount (available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations between your boompole and the mic. The BP4073 also includes two rubber O-rings that expand the microphone's diameter to fit the larger mic holders found on many high-end cameras.
Windscreen Minimizes Wind Noise
The BP4073 has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. Enhanced attenuation of wind noise is possible with the addition of an optional furry windshield such as the Saramonic TM-WS1.

For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the separately available Rycote Windshield Kit 4, a complete windjammer, windshield, and shockmount suspension system.
Auray DUSM-1 Universal Shockmount for Camera Shoes and Boompoles

The Auray DUSM-1 Universal Shockmount features a four-point suspension to accommodate shotgun and other cylindrical microphones measuring 0.74-0.98" (19-25mm) in diameter. The shockmount is easily angled with its rubberized adjustment knob. There is a built-in shoe for camera mounting, and a 3/8"-16 thread connection at the base mounts the shockmount to boompoles and universal handgrips.

Auray Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones (4.7")

The Auray WSS Series Professional Windshields deliver superior 360° wind protection with acoustic transparency. They are engineered for dramatic reduction of unwanted broadband wind noise and vocal pops with very little high frequency loss, for exceptionally accurate recordings.

This WSS-2012 Professional Windshield has an inside depth of 12cm and is designed for use with many shotgun microphones. It features a specially manufactured open-cell foam matrix surrounded by a layer of 25mm thick simulated rabbit fur. This diffusion technology lowers wind velocity in a controlled air space around the microphone, thereby reducing wind noise without muffling the sound. It also features an airtight tapered rubber base that seals out wind from the rear of the microphone, greatly improving isolation and rear wind protection.

When used on a shotgun microphone, this slip-on windshield is effective in minimizing wind noise and plosive sounds. It is most effective in light breeze to strong breeze conditions (4 to 25 mph) and users can generally expect a 24 to 40 dB reduction in wind noise with negligible dampening of high frequencies.

In addition to superior 360° wind protection, the WSS-2012 helps prevent moisture and dirt from damaging your microphone. The windscreen is designed to fit microphones from Audio Technica, Sennheiser, Sony and others.

The WSS-2012 Professional Windshield for Shotgun Microphones is an advanced solution for outstanding wind protection with acoustic transparency. It fits microphones ranging from 0.75 to 0.9 inches in diameter.

Not an audio engineer, not a musician, not a videographer how did I end up with such expensive mic? Need for the low frequency recording. Didn't imagine how difficult it is to record the noise free, or at least acceptable level low frequency semi-faint humming noises from mechanical equipment through the wall. You can hear and feel it. Lot of mikes seem deaf to it. First I tried to use the equipment which I've already had, moved on to more expensive mics, did plenty of internet research, tried geophones. My criteria were: 20Hz at low end, high sensitivity and affordability. Learned the hard way that there is no such animal out there. Almost settled for the NTG1 when browsing through sensitivity specs on B&H website I discovered this model. Almost three times the price, but I was curious to see if it can do better job with my task at hand. The difference made me do it. To spend extra money. It would be unfair to compare performance of NTG1 with much more expensive AT BP4073. Both fit my criteria and Rode did admirable job for my need, too. But 7 dB difference in sensitivity alone makes it no contest for my project. AT BP4073 has the high frequency limit at 17 kHz which is way more than a plenty for me. The last time humans can hear that frequency is at the age of 24. I'm quite a bit beyond that point. I wish audio equipment manufacturers were pushing clean lows rather than non-registrable ultrasonic highs. Familiar muddy lows are OK for cheap products. Clean low frequencies which we all can hear until late age could/ should be standard feature with all quality audio products.

question

Is there a stand that can be sued with this kit to hold the boom pole?
Asked by: Jason
Yes. You could use a c-stand such as IMLSCT40M , and this grip kit (GBBPHK) will secure the boom pole to the stand.
