ARRI L2.0005121 Overview

This is an ARRI Full Double Scrim that fits the 650W Fresnel, Arrisun 2, HMI 200W or any fixture that accepts a 6 5/8" accessory. Scrims are metal screens mounted in a metal frame. They are placed in front of a light to reduce light intensity. ARRI makes four different types of scrims:

  • Full Single: This scrim covers the entire lightface and reduces the intensity of the entire light beam.
  • Full Double: This scrim covers the whole face of the light. It has two metal screens in it, reducing light intensity by two times the amount of the full single.
  • Half Single: This scrim only covers half of the lightface reducing half of the light intensity.
  • Half Double: This scrim is the same as the half single but reduces light intensity twice as much.

Half scrims may be rotated in position for more precise control.

I have the single and double scrims. Using a light meter with my arri 650+ projecting a beam on the wall, at a given distance... The green scrim attenuated the light by a full f stop while this one only cut down a tiny bit. Example: without scrims: f22...with the single...f/16...with the double...f/8.8? Doesn't do much.

I am still rating this five stars as it is built amazing (of course-as its made by Arri) and does what a scrim is supposed to do. It just doesn't stop down the light hardly at all, so make sure you have some other form of knocking down your lights.

For the low cost, purchasing this product should be a given. There is no easier way to stop-down your light efficiently, and this scrim lasts. It can endure hours of intense heat before showing any discoloration, and even after that point, will last through whatever beating you put it through. Bottom line: If you are purchasing an Arri light, don't hesitate to include this accessory.

The only caveat I will offer is that the color rim fades pretty quickly with use. Not a huge deal, but the color does make quick identification a bit easier. With the color gone, I have to pull it out and look at it to know if it's a single or a double.
