    Nikon 25420B reviews

D40 SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-55mm Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 250.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect entry-level DSLR! I bought this after using a Nikon D200 on a wedding job and being blown away by the bright clear photos. I sold my canon 10D which I felt had always produced flat, drab colors and dark exposures despite my best efforts to use the options correctly. This camera weighs less, is easier to use, and takes better pictures. What more could you want? I have many years of photography experience and owned three Canon DSLRs before this one - this is by far my favorite. The only shortcoming was the lack of an X-sync connection (I own Speedotron lights) but a little $ hot-shoe adapter solved that problem. I can't recommend this product enough!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great entry level SLR Don't be fooled by megapixels, this camera is on par with anything else on the market until you go beyond 30 inch prints. I shoot landscapes and portraits and its features are excellent for any price point, but where the camera excels is in the action shots i take of moving automobiles. The only reason i will eventually upgrade will be for faster frames per second burst capabilities, but this camera has features even then i will not have fully taken advantage of. Ergonomics and build quality are first-rate. Can't really think of any downsides except that i don't have two of them so i don't have to change lenses...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Excellent Camera After some in depth research on my first SLR camera, I went with the Nikon D-40. I'm happy to say that the research paid off and this camera was an excellent choice. The auto focus lens capability along with super fast reactive abilities of the camera (in adequate lighting) blows all the other cameras i've used in the past away!!! I've taken countless photos from my kids playing sports, to vacation shots, to product shots for my business and all have been effortless. The photo quality is great and the 6+mp resolution is plenty for quality shots with the lenses offered by B&H. Enjoy this camera, I know I am!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great camera This is a spectacular camera for family and all-around shooting, good enough to be a decent event/wedding photographer's camera. I'm a former newspaper guy with an F100 and D100 just recently put on the shelf. I bought this D40 just in time to shoot a friend's wedding and I'm thrilled with the results. This camera is easy enough for my 8-year-old to use, yet capable of the customizations that I require. I know everyone refers to this as a good my first DSLR but if you don't need all the extras of the D700 this camera appears to be fantastic. It is all plastic, so I'm wondering how it will hold up, but so far I am thrilled with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great DSLR for a beginner I looked at entry level DSLR cameras from Nikon, Canon, Sony and Pentax. I finally decided to go with the D40. As I was moving from a very simple point and shoot camera, I wanted my first DSLR to be easy to use and learn with. The D40's display is very informative and gives you feedback on every setting. The menus have sample photos so you know what settings are good for a particular shot. The camera, while small for a DSLR, feels solid in your hand. The only small complaint I have is that it tends to overexpose bright areas in a photo, but this can be dealt with using the different metering modes and exposure compensation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera, Super Price We've just had this camera for a month or so but so far we're thrilled with it. Picture quality is superb, battery life seems endless and so easy that right out of the box my wife, not the one with any experience, was taking great pictures! We couldn't be happier. We are seeing that the 18-55mm lens doesn't get us close enough for people at any distance so we will need a longer lens but we expected to need one anyway so that's ok. I'd sell this kind of camera to friend or family!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly as expected i'm still studying the instruction manual for how to use all non-automatic settings, but so far it seems really helpful and even gives examples of situations wherein each setting should be used. the automatic settings are easy to use and self-explanatory, and changing lenses is also really easy so i feel like i can maximize the camera's potential without too much work. the only thing that i'd like to adjust is the 8 second delay before the LCD goes off. it sounds like a lot but i almost always need to look at the screen again--i suppose this will also diminish as i get more accustomed to the screen and settings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from really good camera excellent camera; it's probably both the cheapest and the best digital slr out there short of a multi-thousand-dollar pro unit (and even then I'm not so sure it's not nearly the best). Can produce pro-level results with very little expertise or digital experience. The included lens is very good. The only thing--and I mean the *only* thing--that could be added would be an automatic bracketing option, but this is so minor a quibble, given how well this thing works on 'Automatic,' that it's hardly worth mentioning. I saved a ton of money by getting this camera body and spending the savings on a couple of the Nikkor VR lenses (I really like the combination of 18-105mm and 70-300mm). It does absolutely everything (including macro) that I could reasonably want or need.
