Nikon 26170B overview

  • 1Description

A powerful photographic tool that blends ease-of-use with advanced shooting functions, the Nikon Coolpix L100 features 10-megapixel resolution, high-powered 15x optical wide-angle zoom, Continuous Scene Mode, Smart Portrait System, Motion Detection, 4-Way Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization, Auto Scene Selector, high 3200 ISO capability, and a large 3" LCD with high-contrast and anti-reflection coating for clear viewing, even in direct sunlight.

10-Megapixel Resolution
10-megapixels image sensor delivers stunning images with true-to-life color and pleasing details. Plenty of sharp resolution to capture the finest details, crop creatively and produce incredible enlargements up to 16 x 20".
15x Wide-Angle Zoom-NIKKOR Optical Lens
Incredible 15x optical wide-angle (28-420mm) Zoom-NIKKOR glass lens handles everything from landscapes and group shots, to tight close-ups and shots taken from a distance. Quality optics deliver superb color and razor-sharp results throughout the zoom range. High ISO 3200 capability when shooting 3MP or smaller images. Macro close-up mode allows shooting from 0.4" (1cm) to infinity.
4-Way VR Image Stabilization
To minimize the effects of camera shake, the camera offer a 4-way VR (Vibration Reduction) function which includes Nikon's Optical VR Image Stabilization that compensates for camera shake by moving the image sensor, as well as Motion Detection, ISO 3200 and Best Shot Selector (BSS).
Motion Detection compensates for camera shake by automatically controlling shutter speed and ISO settings, while Best Shot Selector (BSS) automatically takes up to 10 shots while the shutter is pressed and then saves the sharpest image. High ISO3200 capability gives you sharper results when shooting in low light or capturing fast-moving subjects (ISO 3200 is only available at 3MP or lower resolution) .
Large 3-inch High-Resolution LCD
Large, high resolution (230,000 pixels) 3-inch LCD makes it easy to compose shots and play them back anywhere. In addition, the high-contrast and anti-reflection coating on the screen offers clear viewing, even in direct sunlight.
Smart Portrait System
Nikon's Smart Portrait System ensures a bright smile being captured without blinking, offers in-camera red-eye fix and rescues dark or backlit images by improving brightness and detail where needed. The enhanced Face-priority Auto Focus can detect up to 12 faces-per-image and adjusts brightness on the subject's face to ensure well-balanced exposure of a whole picture.
Sports Continuous Scene Mode
In this mode you can shoot up to 30 consecutive pictures at 13 fps (frames per second) when you set the resolution to 3MP or lower. This allows you to stay ahead of most any action scene you wish to shoot. Capture that golf or baseball swing, or the fast action on the soccer field.
Automatic Scene Selector
The camera can automatically recognize the scene and select from one of six scene modes (Portrait, Night Portrait, Close-up, Landscape, Night Landscape or Backlight mode) for best results. The Coolpix L100 offers a total of 16 scene modes plus 5 color options for special effects, and can record video with sound.
Records to SD/SDHC Memory Cards
Records to SD (Secure Digital) or SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) memory cards and even has a 44MB internal memory for those times you may not have a card available.
Runs on AA-size Batteries
The camera is powered by 4 widely available AA batteries so you never have to worry about recharging or running out of power. The camera is also very power efficient, allowing you to take up to 350 shots with standard alkaline batteries or 900 shots using lithium batteries.

    Nikon 26170B reviews

Coolpix L100 Digital Camera (Matte Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Am loving my new camera Everything about the camera is awesome. The only downfall are battery replacements, however, I did purchase some rechargable double AA's which will help keep the camera running longer and I will not have to purchase so many batteries. I wanted the camera for more Pixel power since my other digitals are obsolete in that category. The pictures in the new camera are crystal clear. I mostly use the automatic settings which does most of the work for you. Now that I have more time for photography, this camera will take pictures I can actually be proud to frame, sell or give away if I want to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Good Camera For Our Needs Our company's field techs use these cameras. One of the few (if not the only) cameras of this type that still has date stamp capability. While I believe the picture quality of the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 to be slightly better than the L100, this camera is more than adequate for our needs. On a very positive note, the eight L100's we currently own have held up well in the field (6 months of being hauled around in trucks with no problems so far).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The nicest camera I have ever had. I used this camera. It is really nice, easy to operate. It's optical zoom capacity is really good. I have never thought that I would get this much facilities at this cheap rate. It comes with 4 AA batteries, easy to get anywhere, lasts longer than the other cameras with 2 batteries. It doesnt only look like SLR camera but also works like SLR.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not quite as good as I expected I got this camera to replace a point & shoot Fuji camera which was starting to break. It was in my price range and I was excited about the higher resolution. The camera is okay, but still not up to par to my first p & s Fuji E 550. The images are often not as crisp as I expected, the macro either catches the image or not, I can't grab an exposure and focus in another place, hold it and move to what I want to shoot and I wish it had manual override controls. I also don't think the video function is quite as good...I can't focus during shooting and the videos are blurry. I have been a Nikon person since I worked in Medical Illustration in vet school, shooting on some old F bodies and I got this Nikon to see how the lower end cameras were since I haven't gone digital yet with my big SLR. I am not overly impressed, and am thinking that Canon, esp with the full frame sensor is the way to go. Nikon has just been too behind the ball on some functions and features and I am disappointed in this camera. I might give it to a friend who just shoots pix of family members and go back to Fuji for now.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average I use the product to take everyday pictures and pictures at sporting events. I have an SLR camera but some places dont allow those cameras so I bought this one for the zoom and the compact size and the price was good at the time. It is easy to use but in my opinion the pics dont come out as sharp and clear as they should.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Camera at affordable price I have bought this camera a month back and I started enjoying it's use every moment. It has a performance equivalent to the DSLR's and the flash range is awesome. I tried taking pictures pitch dark and to my surprise all of them were good.. Will highly recommend this camera

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not nikons best product.. I've always thought that nikons were the one of the most trusted brand name cameras out there. but after getting the nikon coolpix L100 i was dissapointed.. for a bigger camera it didnt have the best quality picture. the lens sticks out too far below the flash so when taking pictures at the slightest upward angle prepare to have a half moon shadow at the bottom of your photo. (very irritating when you had the perfect shot such as a baby finally smiling for the camera).. its not so easy to change settings because to change one simple setting theres four more u have to set to get there. (irritating when shooting something on a time limit)... i guess its all about preference, it might work for you but it didnt for me.. good luck!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from P&S that rivals the big dollar DSLR I have 2 Nikon DSLR, the D2H and D200 and the images from this camera is on par, if not superior in almost all ways and for the price of of two D2h batteries or the power boost for the D200.
