question

How does a speed light compare to a strobe in terms of w/s? Strobes are listed as 250 w/s, 400 w/s, 500 w/s, etc. How many w/s are these speed lights?
Asked by: Tracy
My studio power pack says it has a guide number of 455 for 1200 watt/seconds. ISO 100, measured at 10', using 11 reflector.

question

if I put this on a d500 with the 85mm/1.4D lens ...one will it work 100% ..and two it has a zoom to 120mm, the d500/85mm/1.4 would yield bout 127mm..what are the ramifications? thank you
Asked by: William H.
1: The Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight is fully compatible for use with the Nikon D500 DSLR camera.2: If the Power Zoom Function is set, once you place your lens on the camera and press the shutter button down halfway to focus, the zoom head in the flash should automatically set to the lens' focal length. The electronics in the lens and flash would communicate through the camera to set the flash's coverage to cover the angle of view used by your 85mm lens.

question

Hi. Just got a Nikon D5100 as a gift (lucky me :)This flash, the SB-700 seems to be perfect for what I would like in one. It says it supports DX and FX format cameras. Mine says D 5100, but it has DX on the basic lens it came with. Silly question perhaps, but is my camera a DX format camera? and will the flash work with it the way it is described, with all those great features? Thanks in advance for answer. What is so special about the DX and FX that makes this flash best suited to it, anyway? if you have time to comment :)
Asked by: Anonymous
FX format cameras are those whose sensor are full-framed or the same size as 35mm film negative frames were. DX format cameras are the APS-C format cameras with the smaller sized sensor and have the 1.5x magnification factor to them. Your D5100 camera is a DX format camer. This flash as with all current Nikon series flashes are compatible with both formats (DX and FX).

I have had my SB700 for a couple of years and it has worked great. I just bought a Vello FreeWave remote trigger and find that when the Speedlight sits on the trigger for a while the speedlight becomes unresponsive and I cannot even turn it off. I need to remove and replace batteries to get it to work again. Any solutions to this?
Asked by: Benjamin
If one does not use the Vello remote trigger, one would have no problem using that Nikon SB700.

What is the wattage for this flash?
Asked by: Larry
The formula for calculating wattage is: W (joules per second) = V (joules per coulomb) x A (coulombs per second) where W is watts, V is volts, and A is amperes of current. In practical terms, wattage is the power produced or used per second.
