Shooting for more than 60 yrs., but never owned a L Bracket. But since I purchased the Acratech GXP, and knew it would be the last ball head I would own,so I thought I may as well throw in the Acratech L Bracket. I'm glad I did. Same high quality design, and a beautiful piece of work. Works way better than the drop down slot. And of course, made in the good 'ol USofA makes it (I know overpriced) worth the $$$. Glad I purchased it, and if you are the fence, and can afford the $ I highly recommend it! And again a big SHOUTOUT to B&H !!! Still the best after all these years !!!

The Acratech Extended Universal L Bracket is costly but worth it in both features and quality. The built-in clamp makes changing out multiple cameras quick and easy. The clamp closure knob takes only a few turns to open/close. The open nature of the bracket frame simplifies routing remote release cables, especially since the stiffener on the non-clamp side of the bracket can be moved up or down to suit. It is solidly made and rigid once installed on a tripod, even with heavy gripped 35mm cameras and large lenses. This L-bracket will require purchase of accessory body base plates to allow fit of cameras to clamp. My working approach is to use multiple cameras with different lenses on each, and over the years I've upgraded cameras often enough that I've never bought body-specific L-brackets, so the Acratech Universal L bracket is perfect for me. I just returned from a landscape trip, and this L-bracket performed exactly as envisioned.
