Key Features
- Convenient Desktop Design
- Metal Housing
- Indicating Rocker Switch
The Micmute PPD from Whirlwind is a compact desktop-style on/off switch that provides quick and easy control of a mic or line audio signal. The rugged metal housing offers XLR input and output connectors for wide compatibility. The indicating rocker switch will toggle between on and off states, blocking and passing audio alternately with each switch. In the "on" state, the switch shows a red bar. A blue LED illuminates when a mic is live and a signal is passing through the box, and is not functional when phantom power is not present. The Micmute is entirely passive, requiring no power.

Can it be latched to an ON position when you need to talk at length?
No. The Whirlwind Micmute PT Push-to-Talk Switch is a momentary switch that does not latch. When the switch is pressed and held down, the Micmute will allow the audio signal to pass through, then mutes the signal as soon as the switch is released. For the latching version, you will want to check out the Whirlwind Micmute PP Push-On/Push-Off Audio Switch (B&H # WHMICMUTEPP). As another option to consider, the Rolls MS111 Mic Switch Latching or Momentary Microphone Mute Switch (B&H # ROMS111) will also work as a latching switch.

question
I'm seeing some Q&A here regarding various devices, but here is both a Q and A regarding the Whirlwind Micmute PTD:Does this device pass phantom power, even when muted, so that condenser mics may be used?
Phantom will pass as the mute position shorts pins 2 and 3, but the unit is likely to pop when used with phantom. For truly silent switching , use the MicMute PX.
