Bower ABNEXFD Reviews

Does the job well!

The adapter fit perfectly into the Sony FS100. Now, attaching a lens to it was quite a bit of work, since Canon FD mount lenses have a lock in the rear, and this lock needs to come in contact with the pin that sticks out in the inner circle of the adapter. After this, you then have to press the unlock button on the lens, rotate the locking ring until the lens snaps into place. It's tough only the first time, it'll be easy after doing it several times. The aperture locking ring on this adapter seems to be very delicately constructed, so be careful and rotate it softly. Its functions are: 1) Lock- here the aperture you've set on the lens is locked and cannot be changed. 2) Open - this function allows you to change the aperture on the lens to whatever you need it to be. If you happen to be using a Sony FS100, be prepared to experience a noticeable degree of flaring and ghosting under bright and over-exposed conditions. Nothing out of the extraordinary for any camera using a lens adapter, but it is indeed present and you'll need to adjust you shot compositions accordingly. Overall this adapter does the job well and allows you to mount beautiful vintage lenses to your Sony E system. The optical quality that comes out of the lenses will render it a worth while purchase.

Bower down in shame

The only reason I'm giving 1 star is because this did fit my SONY NEX-VG20 and CANON lenses without a problem. Almost immediately, on the day I received this adapter, the cheap, flimsy aperture ring jammed. There isn't any traction/knurling on the Lock - Open aperture ring to grip so when it jammed to the open position I had to remove everything to figure out that this Bower adapter was defective. I'll be returning this to B&H for a refund as I've found a better built adapter for a more reasonable lesser cost. This is far too expensive at $for what you get. Maybe this one was defective from the factory as most of the reviews were positive. I'm not impressed with the Bower after using a better adapter of another brand.

question

I have FD 20mm f/2.8 & 50mm f/1.4. Can this adapter use hyperfocal distance correctly? I know some FD to NEX adapters can't achieve it. I am looking for the right one, thanks! If not, any adapter recommended? Please share ideas!
Asked by: Kevin T.
Infinity focus should be accurate, as such scale focusing has to be correct. Some cheap adaptors may not have accurate infinity focusing, but I bet if you contact Novoflex, they will vouch that infinity is accurate on their adaptors.
