PortaBrace WPC-1OR Reviews

Smaller than I expected, but still very useful

I purchased this as a run & gun bag for my Canon C300MKII and for something I think will allow me to travel on airlines (pretty sure it will fit in most overheads bins but I haven't traveled with it yet). I wanted a bag that would allow me to fit my camera in without removing it's components (handle, grip, VF, mic). It does fit on it's side but the side grip impedes with the lid closing just a little. But since it's a soft-sided case there's enough give for it to work. With this camera it doesn't leave much room for lenses, etc, but I made it work using the dividers and velcro that comes with the bag. If you are using smaller cameras or HDSLRs, its a great option. The wheels attach and detach easily and can fit in the side zipper pocket. The retractable handle is effortless and slick. My biggest gripes with the bag come mostly from it's construction. Overall it doesn't feel as study or as well made as my older PB bags. The material seems thinner and I don't really see the attention to redundant supports and stitching. I also wish that the floor padding was more adequate. (I supplemented mine) and I wish there were modular pockets for lenses (I made my own from the included wall divider material). One other issue is that it should have included D-Rings for an optional strap. There's not really any place for them. There are some fabric tabs that you might be able to attach a ring to, but those stitches won't hold up over time. The front (top) pocket might hold an iPad Pro or a small BMP but it doesn't have a lot of reinforced padding so keep that in mind. All said, it's a nice bag at a great price and it's a Porta Brace so it's hard to go wrong. If you need something that is easily accessible and mobile, this is a great option.

Top bag for dslr video gear

Ideal for use on aircraft travel, and has many compartments and a divider kit to customize your gear. Great compact bag for Dslr bodies, lenses, LCD screens, laptop and all other smaller items. Comes with light panel for dark / low light scenarios. The wheels of course are a bonus, I am able to stack another runner bag on top of this. Porta brace is the zacuto of bags, you get what you pay for. I was looking at getting a hiker hk-2 and was swayed to this due to the extras like light, wheels and more usable compartments.

question

Wheels look very vulnerable, would you be comfortable repeatedly checking the bag on flights.
Asked by: Wayne
I would say that this is the result of wanting the maximum space. I would imagine Porta Brace is thinking the users want more space and that the wheels, if in the rare chance they are damaged, would be an easy fix.
