The dedicated Vello ET-65III Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Canon's EF 85mm f/1.8 USM, EF 100mm f/2 USM, EF 70-210mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, EF 135mm f/2.8 SF & EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM lenses. It is primarily used to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of it. A dedicated hood is crafted to perfectly suit the specific focal length of the lens it is designed for. Additionally, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. Also, since the end of the lens is extended, you get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Vello ET-65III Overview

The dedicated Vello ET-65III Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Canon's EF 85mm f/1.8 USM, EF 100mm f/2 USM, EF 70-210mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, EF 135mm f/2.8 SF & EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM lenses. It is primarily used to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of it. A dedicated hood is crafted to perfectly suit the specific focal length of the lens it is designed for. Additionally, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. Also, since the end of the lens is extended, you get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The bayonet mount is designed to also work in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution.

I should have added that my lens has a 62mm filter diameter. I can't find anything about the diameter of this hood on the web page. Can anyone help with that information? Thanks.

This lens hood in specific to the following lenses: Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM, EF 100mm f/2 USM, EF 70-210mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, EF 135mm f/2.8 SF & EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM This is based on their bayonet mounts on the front of the lens barrel as opposed to the filter diameter.

Is there any reason this hood would not work on ...

Is there any reason this hood would not work on an old Nikkor 70-210 Series E lens?

It won't work because the bayonet connection for the lens hood is different between Canon and Nikon and also the diameter needs to be exactly the same and the position of the mount needs to be exactly the same, therefore when getting a dedicated bayonet style hood such as this one it needs to list exactly the lens you own or it won't work.

No, it will not. The Vello ET-65 III Lens Hood is not compatible for use with the Canon 100mm F/2.8L EF IS USM Macro Lens; it is only compatible with the Canon 100mm f/2 EF USM lens, the Canon 85mm f/1.8mm EF USM lens, the Canon 135mm f/2.8 EF with Softfocus lens, and the Canon 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 EF USM lens. If you are looking for the correct Vello lens hood for use on the 100mm f/2.8L EF IS USM Macro lens, the Vello ET-73 Dedicated Lens Hood, B&H # VELHCET73, would instead be the right option for your needs.

Will this lens hood work on a Canon 70-300mm USM IS lens?

The lens hood fits most 58mm lens threading. SO given that the 70-300mm is a 58mm filter thread, i believe its safe to say you'll be able to use this just fine with your lens.

The ET-65III lens hood fits the Canon 80mm f1.8, 100mm f2, 135mm f2.8 Soft Focus and 100-300mm f4.5-6.5 USM lenses. If you have one of those lenses attached to your Rebel T5 body, it will fit the lens. You need to identify the LENS you are trying to attach the hood to, not the camera body, for a good answer.

Even though this was designed for the 85mm f/1.8, can it still be used with a 50mm f/1.4 without affecting the quality of the image?

In my experience a crop sensor camera (50d - 1.6x crop factor) using a 85mm lens hood on a 50mm lens will not run into the field of view. However at full-frame (1ds mark iii) one might experience some darkness at the corners of the frame.
