Whether capturing images in the studio or on location, the Vello FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release adds flexibility and versatility to your shooting style. Photography unplugged - shooters can interact with a model, view the scene or set from alternate angles, or set a camera by a stream to capture an image of a bear hunting while you remain at a safe distance away - all this and more without missing a beat, a shot, or a moment. This particular FreeWave unit is compatible with cameras with a 3-pin connection, i.e. Canon 1D series, 5D, 6D and 7D series DSLRs.

This versatile shutter release features Smart Code technology which allows it to be configured to operate on up to 16 million possible radio channels. You can easily switch channels to "zero in" on a frequency that provides optimal range and functionality.

The FreeWave operates with radio frequency (RF) technology, therefore a direct line of sight is not necessary; radio waves pass through objects such as windows and walls. It is unlike other wireless remotes on the market that operate on an Infrared (IR) system and require a direct line of sight between transmitter and receiver to make things work.

Since touching the camera even lightly while capturing an image can create a blurred image, the FreeWave eliminates this by tripping the shutter without any disturbances. This is critical when photographing subjects close up, and for long-exposures and macros. It is also extremely valuable when photographing nature, wildlife and other subjects that are difficult for you to get close to.

Compatibility
Canon EOS: 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 5D, 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III, 6D, 7D, 7D Mark II, 1D, 1D Mark II, 1D Mark II N, 1D Mark III, 1D Mark IV, 1Ds, 1Ds Mark II, 1Ds Mark III, 1D X and 1D C
Smart Code
The FreeWave's Smart Code feature allows you to operate on 16,000,000 possible radio channels. No DIP switches need to be set, and one transmitter can trigger multiple receivers. The units have been synchronized at the factory, so your system can work right out of the box. However, to maximize signal quality and range, it is best to use the Smart Code technology to sense the "quiet" frequencies in your environment and re-synchronize on that channel.
Extended Range
The FreeWave can fire the camera's shutter from distances up to 320 feet (100 meters).
Multi-function
Trigger your camera wirelessly or wired. Wired triggering even works if the receiver battery is dead or missing.
Dual-Function Release
Press the transmitter's button half way to focus; press it fully to trigger the shutter.
Delayed Release
The two-second delay function gives you extra time to get into position.
Multi-exposure
You can take multiple shots with one press of the trigger.
Long Exposures
With the FreeWave you can control the length of the exposure remotely.
LED Indicators
Two LED indicators confirm pre-focus and exposure when in the wireless mode.
Versatile
The FreeWave includes a camera release cable that works with your particular camera model. By simply changing to another cable (additional purchase required) a single receiver can work with many other cameras as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great at aGreat Price I am a wedding photographer, and often I need to be in hands free, in the formal shots ,and this worked perfect on the shot I just did .I did not mount it to my flash shoe,as I need the flash to be on the Cannon 6 d. Instead I secured it with a large rubber band to one of the legs of my tri-pod .Great range ,and so far no problem ..The price was great and fit in my bag taking up all most no space ..I would recommended it..I use d it on my Cannon 6 D and my Canon 50D ..May buy another later ..I all so took some shots later of my husband and my self ,with out having to sit the timer and run and hope I made it before the flash went off..Great Product and the booklet that came with it was very informative

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It Works Great!!!!!!!!! As program host for a couple of radio shows in Memphis, I interview a lot of people. I like to take a picture with my guest for promoting on twitter & fb. I've had my Canon 20D since they 1st came out. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on extra equipment for my camera, so I found the Vello remote to be at a great price. I appreciate the long time relationship with B&H over the years. I've purchased medium format camera system & other gear for my picture taking habit and have always relyed on B&H. My son does a lot of business with video using their excellent service. This remote does everything I wanted it to do and then some.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handy little device This is a handy little device for any DSLR owner. The ability to activate the camera from a distance is great when photographing wildlife, or events where you want to be in the photo, and a self timer won't do the trick. This remote works well. I had a little trouble getting the cable to fit properly into the plug on the side of my camera, but after getting the feel for how hard you had to push to make a good contact, it seemed to work fine. There seems to be just a bit of lag between pushing the remote shutter release and the activation of the shutter on the camera. I plan to keep it in the camera bag at all times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Initial impression is positive I've only had this for a short time and have not had an opportunity to use it much, but my initial impressions are that it works well. I've tested both the wired and wireless functions, both work well. I've only tested its range to about 10 feet, but that worked well. It does support changing frequencies if you encounter interference with other devices, but the out-of-box setting was working fine for me. If you have your camera set for high-speed multi-shot, it's difficult to depress the button once and only get a single shot. Mine took at least two shots every time. Once I set the camera to single-shot, all worked as expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never miss important shots again! I bought this soon before I had to shoot a wedding. I was surprised at how reliable this shutter release was. I needed to use it for a stationary camera set on a tri-pod to take shots of the ceremony processional while I was taking candid shots of other wedding moments. It has 3 settings that let you do so much! you can truly be in another building and set this things off and take the shots you hope to capture. The best part is that the cost is nothing given the amount of reassurance you get with this thing. I enjoyed shooting more so because I knew I would end up with shots that I otherwise, as a solo-photographer for a huge wedding, would have never gotten.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, especially for the price I've been looking for one of these and at$, it's great. Like some other reviewers, I don't get the full 100m/300ft range. My experience is more like 50m/100ft, but that's plenty good to get yourself deep in a landscape or to set the camera somewhere where you can't use an infrared or corded remote. I'm using it with a 5DMkII.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as intended. It is very good for the price. The body is plastic, but does not feel cheap. The operation is pretty straight forward. I don't recall this in the description, but you can use it for bulb shooting. If you set your camera to manual or bulb shutter setting, all you do is hold the shutter button on the remote or the receiver for 2 seconds and it will hold the shutter open until you press the shutter button again. Lacks a timer, but it is still useful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great used it a couple times. works exactly how it should. i got it for shooting long exposures. it feels cheap, however my 1 year old daughter got a hold of the remote and banged it around on the coffee table. stil works fine and no physical damage. i dont believe it has a auto shutoff? left it for 10 minutes and it was still on. overall its well worth it. cheaper than most wired remotes.
