Whether capturing images in the studio or on location, the Vello FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release adds flexibility and versatility to your shooting style. Photography unplugged - shooters can interact with a model, view the scene or set from alternate angles, or set a camera by a stream to capture an image of a bear hunting while you remain at a safe distance away - all this and more without missing a beat, a shot, or a moment. This particular FreeWave unit is compatible with cameras with a 10-pin connection, i.e. Nikon D1, D2, D3 and D4 series DSLRs.

This versatile shutter release features Smart Code technology which allows it to be configured to operate on up to 16 million possible radio channels. You can easily switch channels to "zero in" on a frequency that provides the optimal range and functionality.

The FreeWave operates with radio frequency (RF) technology, therefore a direct line of sight is not necessary; radio waves pass through objects such as windows and walls. It is unlike other wireless remotes on the market that operate on an Infrared (IR) system and require a direct line of sight between transmitter and receiver to make things work.

Since touching the camera even lightly while capturing an image can create a blurred image, the FreeWave eliminates this by tripping the shutter without any disturbances. This is critical when photographing subjects close up, and for long-exposures and macros. It is also extremely valuable when photographing nature, wildlife and other subjects that are difficult for you to get close to.

Nikon: D1, D1H, D1X, D2, D2H, D2Hs, D2X, D2Xs, D3, D3s, D3x, D4, D4s, D5, D200, D300, D300s, D500, D700, D800, D800e, D810 and D850
Fuji: S3 and S5
Kodak: DCS-14N
Smart Code
The FreeWave's Smart Code feature allows you to operate on 16,000,000 possible radio channels. No DIP switches need to be set, and one transmitter can trigger multiple receivers. The units have been synchronized at the factory, so your system can work right out of the box. However, to maximize signal quality and range, it is best to use the Smart Code technology to sense the "quiet" frequencies in your environment and re-synchronize on that channel.
Extended Range
The FreeWave can fire the camera's shutter from distances up to 320 feet (100 meters).
Trigger your camera wirelessly or wired. Wired triggering even works if the receiver battery is dead or missing.
Dual-Function Release
Press the transmitter's button half way to focus; press it fully to trigger the shutter.
Delayed Release
The two-second delay function gives you extra time to get into position.
You can take multiple shots with one press of the trigger.
Long Exposures
With the FreeWave you can control the length of the exposure remotely.
LED Indicators
Two LED indicators confirm pre-focus and exposure when in the wireless mode.
The FreeWave includes a camera release cable that works with your particular camera model. By simply changing to another cable (additional purchase required) a single receiver can work with many other cameras as well.

FreeWave Wireless Remote Shutter Release for Nikon w/10-Pin Connection is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 267.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works perfectly I really like this remote. It's cheap, easy to use, and lightweight. I guess some consider it too light, but it's like $$dollars so I'm not sure what they were expecting. It does not feel flimsy to me - the antenna would be a major tell if it was poorly made, but I thought it felt stable. My only complaint is that I wish there were some other mounting options for the receiving end. I use this mostly in my studio while the hot shoe is occupied with a transmitter for my strobes, so I hook it up via 10-Pin. I have no idea what to suggest though. Overall, for the price it's great. Works great, easy to use and pack. I would recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hummingbirds I bought this device specifically to take pictures of Hummingbirds around the feeder. It is very easy to use, and works like a charm. Simply connect the receiver to your 10 pin connection and use the hot shoe to hold it. Turn it on and that's it. I'm taking pictures through a glass door from about 20 feet, no problem. I typically shoot a bunch of frames simultaneously, and all I have to do is have the camera set up correctly and hold down the button on the transmitter. While the unit has a bunch of channel options, I was able use mine right out of the box and didn't have to program the unit. Not sure how well the battery will hold up in the transmitter or receiver, but I've shot probably 1000 frames and no problem yet. NOTE: The image I posted is a little soft, but that's because of shooting in low light, not the remote.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remote shutter release for Nikon D300 I have only used this a few times since I bought it, but so far it is great! Other than just using it for family pictures, I bought this to use at my daughter's 8th birthday slumber party. We set up a photobooth and wanted the girls to control the picture taking so we would get pictures where they were being themselves. They took over 900 pictures. If this can hold up under continuous use by 8-10 year old girls, it will probably hold up under anything. Very pleased with this purchase, especially as the Nikon brand set up I would have had to buy for my D300 would have cost me a small fortune.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable and inexpensive wireless trigger for your Nikon The FreeWave wireless remote shutter is an alternate to Nikon's own offerings and FreeWave's option is something like $150 LESS EXPENSIVE, so this shoutd be an obvious choice. I find that the remote trigger is 100% reliable only if I extend its included antenna. Without the antenna extended, reliability suffers as the distance from your camera increases. The receiver part of the trigger that connects to your camera also has a trigger button on it, to use when you are near your camera but wish to press your shutter without creating camera vibration. The included batteries seem like they will last a few years, so not worried about it being ready when I need it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WORKS GREAT RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX! At the low price B&H is offering this FreeWave Wireless Remote for, I wasn't sure about the quality or performance I would get. What a surprise! It worked perfectly right out of the box. The instructions were easy to understand and I got it working in less than 5 minutes. I attached it to my Nikon D700 and made a series of tests inside my home. I have a 4000 square foot home and every wall is 1-foot thick solid concrete with very heavy steel rebar. I left the camera in my office at one corner of the house and walked through all the rooms in my home, clicking the remote all the way to the far corner of the house. I couldn't believe it - the camera fired every time! I'm very impressed with this unit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pearstone RW-N1 FreeWave Wireless Remote This wireless remote was acquired for the specified capability of functioning at a range of 100 meters. Wildlife photography was the objective. The system functioned perfectly when indoors at ranges up to 20 ft. When tested outdoors at the local soccer field and attempting all possible configurations, the maximum range achieved was never more Than 30 meters.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth its Price! Tested on a Nikon D3S. Have used it for wildlife, macro and landscape photography. It works like a charm. Since I almost always have an extra gizmo on the camera's shoe (for wildlife photography), I can either tie it to the tripod with a strap, or hide it somewhere else, and not worry about having it on top of the camera so I can see the infrared sensor! Line of sight is not an issue here. Haven't really tried it beyond 130ft, but other than that I haven't found any faults so far. It looks a little fragile, but haven't broke it yet! Now if only they would make an underwater housing for it...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I bought this for a month-long foray into night-photography. I take a photo a day and post it on my blog ( April's theme is night photography and it became clear pretty early on that I was going to need a way to trigger the shutter release remotely in bulb mode. The FreeWave Wireless Remote seemed like the perfect fit. It's easy to use and works perfectly every time. I've never had a problem with the wireless remote triggering the shutter release, even without extending the antenna (I'm usually about ten feet or less from the camera). Great price and great product.
