Learn from B&H Experts

From Manufacturer

The Quantum Qflash TRIO Basic Flash combines several of Quantum's venerable Qflash system technologies into one complete dedicated shoe mount flash, and has full E-TTL / E-TTL II dedication to Canon cameras. Slip it onto the camera hot-shoe, connect any Quantum Turbo battery (not included), and shoot studio-quality flash photos non-stop, 24 hours a day without slowing down or overheating.

The Qflash uses parabolic reflectors for clean, even light spread, and the reflectors are removable for bare-bulb lighting. The flash can be used either on-camera on its own or on-camera as a master to other off-camera units.

The TRIO Basic includes many of the same functions as other Qflash models including: Manual, Auto, Auto-Fill, TTL, and Program (Pre-Sets) modes. The TRIO Basic has high-speed sync capabilities, and can be powered by any Quantum heavy-duty Turbo-series battery, which allows for almost unlimited rapid-fire, full-power flashes. It has a user-replaceable flash tube, a coiled 6' power cable, a removable reflector and includes 2 flat white UV diffusers. A wide variety of optional light modifiers are available. Quantum Instruments Qflash TRIO Basic Reviews

I like the Flash but...

The Quantum flash is good but I have one issue and that's with the quality of the plastic. It cracked on me once in 2019 without me doing anything to it and again in 2021, I took it out of my bag and it was cracked. For such an expensive flash I would expect the plastic to be stronger.

Happy so far!

I'm a full-time pro shooter in the twin cities doing studio fashion/pinups, occasional seniors, and plenty of weddings each summer. I've been using Quantum QFlash T2's for a variety of chores for many years and I've always been very happy with them and especially with the light quality. I've only had one unit burn out on me after ten years of regular use... 'not bad. I just received my Trio Basic (after years of complaining about the inconsistent results I get with my Canon 580's - I own three 580EXII's and owned the less expensive models in years past.) I've been playing with the QFlash trio for the past few hours and have had no problems understanding the menu system and no complaints about the results. But it's still early, so perhaps I'll be back again later to whine about something or other! What I especially wanted to comment on right away, however, is the hot shoe mount... I was wary of buying the Trio because so many people complained about the mount. But the unit I received has a steel-plate mount with a VERY sturdy mounting system (a gnurled knob that pulls a steel plate upward inside the camera hot shoe, providing a VERY SOLID connection.) Honestly, I think it's better than the 580EXII, and that one ain't bad at all. Perhaps Quantum has finally gotten around to listening to the ongoing complaints or something, and has finally upgraded the mount. Whatever the explanation, the unit I received on 09-18-14 is excellent in this regard.

question

Can I use the Basic wireless and off-camera and still have TTL control?
Asked by: Martin
Yes you can, however you will need a TTL cord from your camera manufacturer so the camera can communicate with the flash.I am a Nikon Photographer the cord for me would be the SC-29 I am not sure about Canon.
