I was a little concerned about cutting my own mats for my photography but after looking at videos online decided to give this a chance. The Logan Mat Cutter was recommended and I went with the Elite version. I have framed a couple dozen photos with it and so far its making everything look great. Its very easy to use and cuts with precision.

Simple and accurate

Makes accurate and clean cuts fairly easy. Plenty of capacity for all but the largest jobs. Especially helpful for batching out multiple mats.

32” mat is the max. There is no room for a larger mat.

Is it possible to cut borders smaller than 3/4"?
Asked by: Robert
Hello. Yes you can accomplish a border smaller than 3/4" using the mat guide on a Logan board mounted mat cutter. The easiest way is to cut the exact opening you need on a larger mat blank with borders wider than 3/4". Like for instance create your mat with 1 1/2" borders instead. Then after the mat is done, go back with your straight cutter and reduce each of the 4 sides by 3/4" and what will remain is the mat opening you needed with 3/4" borders. I hope that helps. Thanks.

question

does this cut 8 ply mats and foam core?
Asked by: John D.
I bought the above cutter as a spare in case the cutter I was using would not work well.So far, I haven't used your cutter. I don't know about the 8 ply board, but I am definitely sure itcan cut foam board.Ray Gaietto

question

Will this also cut a straight edge? Like a regular paper cutter or is this only for mats? I'm looking for something that could pull double duty as something that will also trim my large images instead of putchasing a separate paper cutter + mat cutter. Thanks!
Asked by: Jennifer L.
This may cutter, like Logan's other mat cutters, does come with both a straight cutter (intended for mats or foam core) and a bevel cutter (intended for cutting bevels on mats). It may be impracticable, though, to use the straight cutter for cutting a substrate much thinner than mat or foam, as the cutting board has a groove in which the blade of the straight cutter rides. For a thick substrate like foam or matboard (2- or 4-ply) that is rigid on its own there is no risk of an inconsistent cut due to material bending down into that groove, but with a thinner material that might be a risk. The thinnest material I've cut on my Logan mat cutter was linen (trimming the linen on a linen-backed piece of art), which worked fine, but for anything thinner for which you want absolutely precise cuts you might be better off with a good straightedge (the Logan Adapt-A-Rule is excellent -- I have the 40-inch model) and a sharp knife on a cutting surface without such a groove as this has. That said, for mats and foam I wouldn't use anything other than this device; it's really quite excellent.
