    Holga HL-C reviews

Lens for Canon DSLR Camera is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 102.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun This product is what you think: a crapo plastic lens for your multi thousand dollar DSLR. :-) It is fun to use and indeed gets you this plastic, unsharp, less contrasty look. For me it doesn't give the cross processed colors we get from Instagram, Snapseed etc. so don't expect colors that aren't in your scene, but you do get some light leak, soft effect etc. It is fun and the price isn't too bad. But keep in mind there are REAL lenses you can get for $ (think 50/1.8) and you can process your SHARP image to get the Holga look, the opposite isn't true, so you have to want to leave quality out the door when shooting this lens, and solely go after the look. For me it is indeed fun, however after I use this lens I shoot some real glass to clean my eyes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Basic is Best! Most lenses are judged by the features and clarity they provide. The true measure of this lens is by what it doesn't do. No AF, fixed aperture, heroically long shutter speeds, and a multitude of other eccentricities. So why on earth would you want to own this lens? It forces you to slow down, compose your shot, break out the tripod, and be judged by what's behind the camera instead of what's attached to it. The viewfinder is almost useless with this lens, forcing you to use the live view. This gives the feeling of looking thru a ground glass viewfinder especially if you have the grid turned on. This is not an everyday lens but for the price you can't go wrong. The depth of field is amazing and the lens itself takes up almost no room at all in the camera bag. I would definitely buy this lens again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my Holga lens! I just received the Holga lens for my canon a little while ago and love it! It's so much fun! I took a photo class where we used holga cameras and loved the look the pictures have. However, because it's a film camera it can get kind of expensive to buy film and to print your pictures. So I'm pretty excited that I can have a lens that does the same thing but now I can review the pictures on my camera instead of waiting for them to develop to see if I got anything good. And just like a Holga you need plenty of light to take photos which doesn't really bother me, it's expected. And especially with how inexpensive it is, it's a great buy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for Full Frame Cameras I bought this lens for my 5D Mark II and was extremely dissatisfied with the results. The vignette is incredibly strong, stronger when you have the focus set to closest. You can actually see the shape of their aperture, which is almost flower shaped, which I found to be really distracting. I think with a camera with a cropped sensor, it might give better results, but for me, it needed way too much light to still give me a terrible picture. I exchanged it for an actual Holga.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just buy it! I was reading the comments and the ratings for this lens. And here it goes for all the so called pro photographers that wrote: POOR IN LOW LIGHT. You did realize it's an f/8 right? Low light lenses are 1.2, 1.4, 1.8, and so on. Plus this is like a toy to experiment with not an L.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holga lens for canon I love shooting my Holga cameras but shooting thru this lens on a digital slr is very different. In lower light, and I'm not talking about dark, it's almost impossible to see thru. Even outside in the bright sunshine everything is dark looking thru the viewfinder. It takes a little getting used to but the photos are great, just like my Holga cameras. So if you love your Holga camera then you will love this lens. If you've never messed with a Holga then I would not recommend it. It is in no way a traditional type lens, it's for fun. Hope this helps

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty fun for $ This lens definitely isn't going to revolutionize your shooting, let me tell you that. However, it is super fun to use! It's great for creating those stylized shots with its weird vignetting and focus. Obviously, it's terrible in low-light. It is much better suited for outdoor use for sure. The focus is kinda a pain too (especially in the cold, the grease gets a bit hard) and is difficult to see through the viewfinder. With that said, it is *only* $. You get what you pay for, and I got a fun afternoon full of weird photos.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's fun. Well it's a fan lens, however it would take time to figure out when to take pictures with it because it needs a certain lighting. If you are going to a very sunny place with huge amount light then take your holga you'll make great pics. If it is nights well be patient put your ISO at 3200 or 6400 (don't worry about noise) and with right light you can take pretty decent pictures.
