    Midland GXT1000VP4 reviews

GXT1000VP4 2-Way Compact Communication Radio (Pair) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 114.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2nd time buying these, very happy! Been using these radios for hunting for a couple years now, they work really good until you lose one. The range of these, while I've never tested at 36 miles before, is really good! a few miles apart from each other with small hills in between and pretty dense trees! I love being able to turn off both beeps and getting the in-ear headsets work really good for whispering between people. Also great for caravan road trips through areas with poor cell reception. Battery life is good for a couple days of use, charging in the dock is great. I've never actually heard any weather updates on those channels, but I'm sure they work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from GXT1000 vs GXT2000! A great product! I bought the GXT1000 and it is a great set to use! The only problem is the terribly LONG charging times required (24hrs initial; 12 hrs thereafter). One of the rechargeable batteries in the handset died after only 2-3 hrs of standby mode/light use. I also called Midland to find out the difference between the GXT1000 & GXT2000; the only difference aside from screen placement is quicker battery charges (2hrs to charge) otherwise they are exactly the same for performance. Save your money and get the GXT1000 instead of the GXT2000!NOTE: Considering the battery issue, you're better off using rechargeable AA batteries as they will last longer! The stock battery is 700mAh but if you use 4 AA @ 2500mAh each you get much better longevity! I love this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice set of radios We recently took a cruise from New York to the carribean on one of the big cruise ships. We bought these radios the morning before the trip at B&H. They worked fine and are really handy for keeping track of people on the ship. We couldn't find a situation where the radios couldn't communicate and the cradle style battery charger made it easy to charge them at night. Bring a 3 way outlet because the state rooms have limited plugs. Oh and they are supposed to be waterproof we never submerged tham but it's nice to know that we could.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good radio These radios are good for short distance. They would be great radios if they had programmable repeater channels. That's really the only draw back. I can get about 1 mile in a suburban wooded area. Everything works great on them and they're pretty durable. All in all, I'm satisfied. You can't get much better for the price I guess. Just remember that if your going to use channels 1-7 or 15-22, get an FCC GMRS license, $85 for 5 years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product We use these to communicate between booth operator and camera operator while filming classes at our school. The snug fitting earpiece is great, if you can get it properly placed in your ear. It takes a little bit of wiggling to get right, and that's the only thing I'm not absolutely thrilled about regarding these walkies. Of course, it would be easy to just get a different ear piece, as these support the standard earpiece inputs (unlike the previous Motorola walkies we were using... We actually upgraded to these because the earpiece on ours broke, and Motorola no longer make earpieces that work with the older models.) Regardless, the camera is located in the middle of the classroom, surrounded by almost 400 other people, so it's very necessary for the camera operator to be able to communicate quietly so as not to disturb the class. The mic picks up whispers crystal clear, and is also fairly adept at isolating outside noise when the classroom is noisy and the operator is trying to communicate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good range, clear audio I use this product to communicate with my assistant during events such as weddings,, you can use it for personal reasons too, I have tested the radio 2 city blocks away with a lot of interference and it worked fine. Will test it on a later date on a cruise. Only issue I have with it is that when speaking, you have to wait for the radio to chirp and pressing/holding on to the speaker button is not very easy when doing it for a long time. The button should be much smoother and easier but overall I am really impressed with this radio especially for it's price

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great set of two way radios. Great buy. I recently purchased a set of Midland GXT 1000VP4 2 way radios. My girlfriend and I plan on using them while camping. We aren't always together. Me out looking for gold and her doing it is what she does when I'm not around. I have a piece of mind knowing she has a radio and her sidearm for safety reasons. We recently went up in the desert to check reception. It was great. When I go to my house we check reception. I live about 7 miles from her and can hear with good clarity. I can recommend these products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid radios Plan to use it with headsets for assistants. I like that the units are small, have a TON of options, the menus are pretty easy to understand after checking the manual. The fact that they have their own batteries as well as taking AAs is very useful, my only kink with their batteries is that theres no notch or anything to help you take them out, flat screwdriver to pry them out required. Charger also gives no indication if the units are fully charged or not. The headsets work well but are a tight fit.
