Vello Auto Extension Tube Set for Nikon F
Key Features
  • Shortens Minimum Focus Distance of Lens
  • Provides Macro Capability
  • Full Autofocus Compatibility
  • 12, 20, and 36mm Tubes
The Auto Extension Tube Set for Nikon F from Vello allows your lens to focus closer than its normal minimum focus distance. By placing distance between your camera body and lens, focusing distance is shortened and the effect of magnifying your subject is created. Extension tubes enable macro performance for lenses not otherwise able to focus that close, and are also suited for close-up portraiture. The Auto Extension Tube Set for Nikon F contains three extension tubes of 12, 20, and 36mm lengths. They can be used individually or together in seven distinct combinations to create the desired magnification effect. For closer focusing use the larger extension tube or stack the tubes together. Extension tubes have no optical elements so do not degrade the quality of your lenses.

These tubes are fully automatic tubes in that they are able to communicate all electronic functions from lens to camera including autofocus and auto exposure. They are compatible with all AF and AF-S lenses. Electronic aperture control is not possible with Nikon AI lenses. They are built with metal lens mounts for durability and longevity and enable you to convert almost any lens into a macro lens at a fraction of the cost while maintaining the lens' original optical quality.

Vello EXT-ND Reviews

good macro and semi-macro accessory

These macro extenders are well made, precise, tight, and very lightweight, in keeping with the lightweight construction of the Z50. Not quite as heavy or solid as the Kenko equivalents. Contact rings are chrome plated metal, bodies are plastic. They look like part of the lens and camera when mounted. Images are superior to those using front mounted optics. Autofocus and exposure are seamless. With a zoom you sometimes have to adjust focal length to get within focus range. The extremely shallow field depth is useful for shooting skittish subjects like birds through a closed window, so long as the window is clean enough the camera doesn't focus on the dirt instead of what you want to shoot. The first photo is a generic definition test with the Z50 DX 50-250 f/4.5-6.3 VR kit lens at 50mm f/4.5 1/80s ISO1000 and 32mm extension. Definition is good at center but not so good at margins. The second is a snapshot through a window with the same camera and lens at 250mm f/6.3 1/400s ISO5600 and 20mm extension (unfortunately with a table lamp light reflected by the window). The third image is a crop of the second showing detail definition. The fourth image is a simple crop of the second without further editing.

Doesn't stay connected

The metal prongs don't stay connected to the camera so the f-stop shows an error on my camera saying it isn't connected. Happens every time I shoot macro. Besides this, I enjoy the product

Extension tubes for mgt or m43

I am writing this review because people have been posting negative remarks. To my knowledge of optics, the working range of lenses are about 35mm to 150mm. Anything under that, the focus is inside the lens to your camera. Once you find that sweet spot, you can auto focus. Some people have remarks of it not being functional. The pins align with the connectors. I have a 18mm lens and found focus deep inside the lens. I could not focus. I was touching the object as I focused. Never achieve that to get it in focus. Once your eyes see the focus on live view, then you can auto focus. I also have a 14mm to 150mm zoom lens and I rotated the focus from 14mm and it came to view at 35 mm and anything higher. So these tubes work.

I have had Vello extension tubes in the past. These were not as well made in my opinion.

The camera has a tendency to reject the tube. It will not accept the tube. The camera goes off. You have to shut the camera in install and install the battery. The finish of the tubes are rough.

They work as advertised, I occasionally have some issues with the autofocus, but I'm not sure if it's because of the tubes or my camera, which is an older model. To fix it, I just unlock the tubes and relock them to both the lens and the camera body.

I have a Nikon D5600 with an AF-P 18-55mm and an AF-P 70-300mm lens. Is this product comparable with my equipment? Thanks.
Asked by: Audrey
It certainly should be. Nikon DSLR lenses are all interchangeable and the extension tubes simply lack any lens ( they are just hollow tube with the two nikon mounts. You should be good to go.

question

I just received the Vello Auto Extension Tube Set for Nikon. I have a D90 camera, and I'm using a Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 35 mm 1:1.8k G lens. I tried using the 12mm extension tube and see nothing through the view finder. I tried it outside with plenty of sunshine, and yes, the lens cap was off, but I still didn't see anything. Also, I know you can't set the aperture with the tubes, so can I still shoot in manual or do I need AUTO?
Asked by: Jane
Everything should work fine with what you have. Since this is a Auto version and not the Manual version, you can control the aperture of the lens with the tubes in place. Be sure that that on the camera, the aperture is open all the way. While the image will be dimmer than without the tubes, you should see clearly enough. If you still have an issue, please email us with your experience. [email protected]

If 36mm extension tube is used with Nikon AF-S DX ...

If 36mm extension tube is used with Nikon AF-S DX 17-55mm f/2.8G ED lens at 55mm what is image size and min. focus distance?
Asked by: Steven
Using an extension tube calculator I found on line, it will be approximately 220 mm assuming a maximum magnification of 0.20X for your lens. The new magnification would be 0.85X.
