Foma Holga 400 120 Reviews

Limited, but not bad

I have found that this film is less tolerant of unfavorable light than higher-priced films. I've shot it in various forms (it is certainly rebranded Fomapan Action 400) and developed it with various developers including two Caffenol recipes I know well, one traditional and one dilute for 70-minute stand processing. In all cases, I get about the same results: the film performs well when exposed about EI 100-200, but in my opinion starts to falter when pushed to the nominal ISO 400, losing all shadow detail and showing less good highlights. As a result, it's pretty good with a Holga in sunny conditions with the large aperture, and pretty good in old box cameras, like a Brownie or Box Tengor with fixed shutter and aperture designed for slow film in daylight. I recommend prewashing to rinse out the distinctive shamrock-green anti-halation dye, using distilled water to mix your chemicals, using a water stop bath to rinse out thoroughly before fixing, and distilled water final rinse (water from a dehumidifier tank works too).

Good film at a good price from B & H. Works great in my Holga cameras too. Nice contrast with medium grain. Fast shipping as always.
