Rollei Rollei 35AF Overview

The chrome Rollei 35AF from Mint Camera arrives with remarkable modifications, combining the nostalgic design of its predecessor with powerful, modern tools. Tools and Benefits
  • Autofocus - Powered by Lidar Technology: LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a specialized autofocus technology that utilizes lasers to establish a subject’s distance. It is recognized for its ability to perform under low-light scenarios and its exceptional focusing capabilities. This powerful system, used by mobile phones and drones, arrives as a major upgrade for the lightweight camera, proving that its size does not compromise its performance.
  • Auto Exposure: Auto Exposure, much like Auto Mode, provides your camera with complete control over the aspects of an exposure. This feature is especially useful when you’re focused on the scene and surroundings, ensuring you always capture those critical shots.
  • Flash or No-Flash Options:  A downside of many low-budget point-and-shoot cameras is the inability to turn off the flash, limiting your photo options depending on the lighting situation. The Rollei 35AF introduces this major feature, setting it side by side with the top point-and-shoot cameras in the market. Additionally, the built-in flash adjusts its intensity based on the subject's distance for optimal lighting.
  • Tripod Socket and Self-Timer: A tripod socket is an essential feature that all cameras designed to enhance the user’s experience include. This opens the doors to many possibilities, including developing professional work with interesting effects such as long exposure and small but important details such as being included in family photos.
Light Control
The Rollei 35AF offers advanced features for professionals and aficionados who aim for manual control:

  • Manual Shutter Speeds: The manual shutter speed allows you to take full command of a shots timing, providing the user with the opportunity to freeze a subject or capture motion.
  • Long Exposure: Spanning from 2 to 60 seconds, the long-exposure feature allows the user to experiment with light trails, grabbing large crowds in motion, or mesmerizing night-time scenes.
  • ISO Customization: The ISO speed directly affects the sensitivity of a film’s emulsion to light and increases or decreases the amount of grain you obtain in an image.
  • Aperture Flexibility: Depth and detail are among the most important aspects of a photograph; with a decent aperture speed of f/2.8 to f/16, the Rollei 35 AF allows for dreamy bokeh and crisp landscapes.

Rollei Rollei 35AF Reviews

Casual, Fun, And Pocketable Film Camera

Yes, Looking At Other Reviews This Camera Has Its Quirks And Is Kind Of Difficult To Load The Film. However, Once You Load The Film Into The Camera, Shooting The Film Is Really Easy And Fun. I Own A Leica M-A And Hasselblad 500 C/M But I've Been Using This Camera More Often Because It's So Small And It's Essentially A Point-and-shoot Film Camera That Is Much Better Than The Disposable Or Other Reusable Cameras In Its League. It's Easy To Carry Around Due To Its Small Size And It Can Fit In Your Pocket. Similarly, Shooting Is A Matter Of Changing The Aperture To Suit The Lighting Conditions And Pressing The Shutter Button To Focus And Shoot. I Take This On Most Of My Trips Because It Is So Small And Easy To Use. The Material On The Camera Is Really Nice As Well, It's Mostly Metal And The Lens Works Well. One Major Annoyance Was That The Lens Cap Kept Falling Off, However That Has Been Fixed With The Newer Versions Because Now The Caps Attach Magnetically. I Did Need To File A Warranty And Returned The Original Camera That I Got Because The Shutter Button Kept Getting Stuck, However The Process Was Very Easy In That I Just Had To Return The Camera And My Replacement Came Within A Week Or Two. If You Want A Film Camera That Is Small, Fun, And Easy To Use, This Camera Hits All Of Those Marks. It Does Have Some Options To Do Some Manual Shooting. However, I Use It More For Casual Use Like Taking It Out On Date Night Or Other Activity With Friends When I Want To Shoot On Film And Not Worry About Fussing Around With The Focus And Other Manual Options Of Standard Fully Manual Film Cameras, Plus It Comes With A Built In Flash That Comes In Handy For Nights Out. I Purchased This Camera Directly From MiNT And I Was One Of The First To Get It Since I Pre-ordered It.

Looks great, functions poorly.

I would not recommend purchasing this camera, especially at full retail price. Pros: - Autofocus and metering were both fairly accurate (when not using flash) - The camera looks nice - Lens is pretty good in terms of sharpness and bokeh - I did not have issue loading film like some others have reported. My copy was easy to open and close Cons: - The camera left deep scratches across almost all of the negatives. Visible in every picture after being developed. I see others had the same problem. Tried ~5 rolls of film, with the same results. - Viewfinder is tiny and blurry. Framelines were outside of the viewfinder so it's hard to be confident on framing - Shutter would frequently jam and it was not simple to fix - When using the flash, subject often came out significantly under exposed - Difficult to wind the shutter and to rewind the film (the high tension might be related to the scratches) - Plastic dials on the front have inconsistent tension and some of the turn on their own - No connection points for a strap - Shutter release has a strange delay which made it difficult to time shots
