Nikon Coolpix P5000 Overview

The Nikon Coolpix P5000 digital camera combines stylish looks and a solid yet lightweight feel with a range of features that enables you to explore the creativity behind photography. With an impressive resolution of 10 megapixels you will also be able to capture images with incredible detail.

The 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor lens provides focal length coverage of 36mm - 126mm equivalent on a 35mm camera, so that you can easily shoot anything from portraits to panoramas. The Vibration Reduction compensates for the blurring that can be caused by camera shake or lower light. Furthermore, a light sensitivity range up to ISO 3200 enables the camera to capture quality images of fast-moving subjects or poorly-lit scenes. This highly responsive camera, offers swift start-up and fast continuous shooting. The mode dial provides quick access to a selection of 16 different scene-optimized modes, seven movie modes, Anti-Shake mode and High-Sensitivity mode.

It is easy to frame images in the optical viewfinder or use the generous 2.5 inch LCD screen. The camera also offers compatibility with a number of add-on system components that will extend your creative possibilities. Included are a variety of lens options and external flash units to provide the more experimental user with more choices to explore different ways to use the camera. The camera is also bundled with Nikon's PictureProject software which makes editing pictures, organizing shots and sharing images remarkably simple. The camera is very comfortable to use thanks to the textured finish and comfortable grip consisting of grid-pattern rubber which provides a secure hold.

10.0 Megapixels for Superb Image Quality
The Coolpix P5000 provides 10.0 effective megapixels of resolution from its 1/1.8-inch RGB CCD so you'll be able to print images of superb quality at Poster size, or crop to focus on details without any loss of image quality. The improved high-performance image -processing engine, further enhances the resulting image quality and provides incredible color.
3.5x Zoom Nikkor Lens with Vibration Reduction
The 3.5x optical zoom lens uses Nikon's world renowned optical technology to deliver clear, crisp images, and provide a focal range of 36-126mm (35mm equivalent). There is also a 4x digital zoom that can be combined for a total zoom of 14x. The lens also supports macro shooting with the capability to shoot as close as 1.6 inches. The VR Optical Image Stabilization System automatically compensates for minor camera movements, letting you shoot without blurring in lower light and allowing you to take advantage of slower shutter speeds.
High ISO Capability
The Nikon Coolpix P5000 provides high sensitivity of up to ISO 3200 so you can record scenes and situations where the use of flash is either impractical or would negatively affect the mood of the image. It also helps the user to photograph fast moving objects with outstanding clarity.
Versatile Shooting Modes
The camera provides both automatic and manual exposure control options including Programmed Auto (P) that automatically selects shutter and aperture settings for optimal exposure; Shutter-priority Auto (S) lets the photographer automatically select a desired shutter speed; Aperture-priority Auto (A) that provides 10-step control over the aperture setting; and a Manual (M) exposure mode that gives the photographer full control over both aperture and shutter speed settings. There is also a Live Histogram Function that graphically indicates shadow and highlight levels to help you avoid under/over exposure before shooting.
Innovative Scene Modes
The Coolpix P5000 features 16 specially programmed scene modes that cover some of the more common difficult shooting situations to maximize the image quality. The scene modes automatically adjust focus, exposure, white balance and other settings to make getting a good exposure easy. Some of the scene modes also include the Scene assist feature, which displays guides on the LCD screen when shooting to aid in proper framing of your image.
Nikon In-Camera Red-Eye Fix
The Red-Eye Fix system automatically corrects for most instances of the red-eye effect that is commonly caused by the use of a built-in flash on a compact camera.
Nikon D-Lighting
The Nikon D-Lighting feature can rescue underexposed images or shots taken with too much backlight by automatically brightening the dark areas in the picture, while maintaining the brighter areas of the image.
Nikon Face-Priority AF
The Face-Priority AF system incorporated into the Coolpix P5000 automatically detects and achieves sharp focus on people's faces wherever they are in the frame for crisp, sharp portraits.
Optimize Image Options
Easily accessed optimization options help user to tailor results to the scene at hand or the intended use of the image. Image sharpening, tone compensation, color, saturation and hue adjustments are all easily controlled by the user, right in the camera. There is also a choice of color modes available including Normal, Softer, Vivid, More Vivid, Portrait, Custom or Black and White options.
Movie and Voice Recording
Shoot QuickTime movies with sound at VGA resolution with a frame rate of 30 fps at a clip length that is only limited by the available space on the internal memory or your SD memory card. The Voice Memo Function Records up to 20 seconds of sound that can then be attached to an image.
Incredible, Bright 2.5" LCD and Optical viewfinder
The Coolpix P5000 is equipped with a bright 2.5" LCD that is excellent for viewing images anywhere, anytime, and the anti-reflective coating makes framing and viewing images more comfortable - even in bright light. The camera also includes an optical viewfinder, to help achieve accurate composition in direct sunlight and other brightly lit conditions that can sometimes make an LCD monitor awkward to use.

The Coolpix P5000 has a a solid body that features a magnesium alloy front panel for durability in a lightweight package, while the comfortable rubberized grip make sthe camera extremely easy to hold. Furthermore, the intuitive interface makes navigating and selecting images straightforward and provides quick and easy access to advanced functions for enhancing or correcting images.
Print Directly to a Printer or Show Pictures on a TV
You can send images directly to print, without the need of a PC, when using PictBridge and USB Direct Print compatible printers, or connect directly to your TV for family slide shows and presentations.

Nikon's Exclusive PictureProject software is designed to extend the enjoyment of taking pictures by making it simple to transfer images from camera to computer, organizing images so they're easy to find, edit them to add an extra sparkle, design ways to show off the pictures and share them with friends and family.
Compatible with Accessory Lenses and Flash Units
The Coolpix P5000 is compatible with optional lens accessories, including the 0.67x Wide-angle Converter (WC-E67) and 3.0x Telephoto Converter (TC-E3ED) lenses. A built-in accessory shoe supports the use of Nikon's advanced i-TTL flash control for external flashes, including the Speedlight SB-400, SB-600 and SB-800.
