The Cross Pole for Uncored Paper or Fabric Backgrounds from Impact is a 9 foot long cross pole meant to hold paper or fabric background rolls that do not have cores. The pole is constructed of lightweight aluminum and comes in two pieces which are easily assembled. The pole is specifically designed to be used with the Varidrive or Manfrotto Expan Drive background rolling systems, but can also be placed across two Varipoles to hang lights or grip equipment. To utilize with the background rolling systems, simply insert the pole into the roll of paper or fabric and insert the expandable cores of the Varidrive or Manfrotto Expan Drive into both ends of the cross pole.

Designed to fit Impact Varidrive System or Manfrotto Expan Drive System.

Cross Pole for Uncored Paper or Fabric Backgrounds - 9' (2.7 m) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect design, and I was very happy to see such quality. You can't get a better quality build than this, at any price. Real solid, the middle attachment is superior, looks like it was cut from a CNC machine from a billet. This is one of the highest quality pieces of gear I've bought. The spring loaded clips make sure the fit is right, tight and secure. The matte polished finish assures the professional appearance you want to project to customers. There is no sagging of my muslin and it's very light weight for such a strong component. I would highly recomennd this to anyone from beginner to professional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Excellent Value I have both the Manfrotto brand and now this one. Although I like the fact that you can snap the Manfrotto poles together, they do not fit very solid. So I thought I'd try the Impact model. The Impact model uses a Allen headed screw to secure the two pieces together. It is not as convenient but it is much more solid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Way better than the cardboard We have a system to hold 3 rolls of paper. The cardboard rolls were sagging in the middle creating wrinkles on the paper when used. We just installed the cross pole and it's super smooth and rigid. Time will tell if it stays that way, but so far so good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keeps paper from sagging BUT This pole is definitely useful to prevent sagging of paper rolls, which always happens if you leave them hanging for a while. However, the brushed finish is very smooth and the pole is somewhat loose inside the core so when you roll the paper back up, the pole rotates but the paper roll doesn't since it's heavy and there is not enough grip between the surfaces. I'm thinking on adding some anti slip tape to the pole, and see if that solves the problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inexpensive and sturdy I have a couple of rolls of seamless hanging from my backdrop system but wanted just a plain bar across the lowest rung for hanging printed backdrops. This works perfectly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keeps paper from sagging BUT (Part 2) I wrote a previous review (which I can't seem to find now) that the pole fits loose inside the paper core (I use 107 Savage paper, cored). Since the pole has a smooth finish it doesn't have enough grip to hold to the core when pulling the paper back up, so the pole rotates inside the core, making the whole varidrive system very impractical for fast use. However, I was able to correct this issue by using a self-adhesive 3-inch wide, anti-slip tape from ULINE, it's like sand paper basically. I wrapped the tape around the pole and now it can firmly pull the paper up and down without issues, using the varidrive chains. The bad news is that the anti-slip tape will set you back around $50, not including shipping, and the good news is that the tape is long enough to wrap up to 3 poles. I realize that this pole is advertised for 'uncored' paper so maybe none of this will happen if you are using that, but the reality is that cored paper also sags in the middle when left hanging for a while and this pole helps you prevent that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked better than I ever imagined Hated spending the money on this and tried to hack it myself using cheaper parts from a home improvement store. But, the paper still sagged. So, I bit the bullet and bought 3 of these. They installed so easily and my paper is perfect now. I wish I would have just bought them and used them from the beginning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cheap and effective It was with a little trepidation that I placed my order for these IMpact poles. They were the cheapest I could find, and after reading some of the other reviews, I was concerned about sag in the pole and also regarding build quality. First impressions were good. The tube itself is stout - the tubing is 1.75mm in thickness (a little under 5/64) and there doesn't feel to be any flex in them when handling. I'm guessing each half could support 100lb or more without any problem. As mentioned elsewhere, the surface is a smooth aluminum and could benefit from tape to help grip a roll of paper. Expensive grip tape, also mentioned elsewhere, might be overkill - I got satisfactory performance from using duct tape or masking tape (the latter is much easier to get off). The center joiner which comes preaffixed to one half of the pipe is well made, but slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the tube it goes into. I chose plumbers' PTFE tape to run around mine, and it reduced the play in the assembled pole from over 3/4 to less than 1/4. That was with a single layer - on my second tube, I went a little thicker and got that wiggle down to less than that. You can play with it to your satisfaction. I purchased this with a different drive system from another website, but it and/or the Impact drive system are all clones, and I had no issues fitting this tube to that drive - I got an awesomely tight fit. Given that this is the cheapest set of 9' support poles I could find, I'm very happy with the performance (after a tiny bit of tweaking) and would highly recommend it to anyone on a budget
