Impact Varidrive Overview

Part of the Varidrive system for easy raising and lowering of seamless paper, the Varidrive with Gray Chain from Impact has adjustable inserts that tightly grip each side of the various sized seamless paper rolls. The Varidrive is then inserted into hooks like the Impact ME-122, ME-123 or the triple hook VPD-H3W. With the exception of ME-122 which fits in a Super Clamp, the other hook sets are bolted onto the wall.

You can load three rolls for example, onto the VPD-H3W. Each roll requires another Varidrive kit. You can purchase color-coded units to clearly identify which roll you're raising and lowering. The Varidrive can handle seamless rolls measuring up to 9' wide and weighing up to 22 lb. To strengthen large coreless rolls and prevent bowing, Cross Poles (VPC-5) are available from Impact.

Sweet backdrop system!

As a person running a website for my own small business, I needed a way to take nice product images. This backdrop system fits the bill perfectly! I needed a white background sometimes and a gray background other times. These backgrounds mount easily and are a breeze to use. I have a third position available for future needs. The only thing I would’ve preferred is an easier method of shortening the chains. The chains appear to be sized for being mounted high on a wall, but I was using a countertop. I used pliers to remove links, and now it’s sized perfectly for my counter! A great system!

First time using mount kit, so far so good

I've always went the route of using c-stands + cross bar, so this is first time using wall mount kit. Seems nice so far. Was very pricey. Think I'll need to spend more time with it. Definitely quality materials being used here. The expandable cores are nice and well made to hold onto the paper roll. My only issues are the chain drives seem tight to pull the cores, might be user error -- or how I have leverage. I'm chalking this one up to a me thing. And the screws sent, I was trying to screw directly into some overhead studs, and even tho I pre drilled, the screws it came with, although seeming heavy duty seemed to strip pretty easily. I replaced with some Torx screws and a pretty minor problem. So far happy with this kit, albeit expensive for what it is.

question

I like this design style but it is too weak. Is there any company that makes this exact thing except out of metal? I have had multiple mounts like this but they have all broke. I need something stronger (with a metal chain)

I have at least 15 sets and never once had an issue that wasn't operator error.

Do these work with vinyl backdrops? I have the wall mounted hooks and 96" rolls of vinyl but have not been able to unroll them more than halfway before the entire roll's weight unravels the entire roll almost ripping it off its core. The chain links have snapped multiple times as well and just don't seem sturdy enough to work unless I have something set up incorrectly.

For vinyl I would use the metal change. And I would not go larger than the width you are using now because the foll becomes too heavy for the drives. You must use both sides of the chain to have a controlled lowering of vinyl because it is heavier. Holding both sides of the loop of chain should keep it from spinning uncontrollably off the cardboard roll. We do not sell the Impact chain on it's own but the Manfrotto 091MCG Metal Chain for Expan Drive, Gray 11.5' (3.5 m) BH #MA091MCG will work on your Impact drives and should not break,

I own 2 of these. One of them the tension on the chain to unroll is very tight--I have to pull hard to bring the paper down. On my other one, the tension is so loose it doesn't want to stop unrolling. This makes me believe that there is a way to adjust the tension but I can't figure it out. To be clear, the entire roll and chain/gear/pulley keep unrolling, it's not just the paper tube not being tightly attached to the rods. How do you adjust?
Asked by: James
The side that doesn’t have the chain, there is a knob that loosens and tightens. It’s where the bracket mounts on the arm.

Is this works with savage port A stand?
Asked by: Safwan
I think it would be awkward at best. These work best on a bracket anchored to the wall. That said, if you mounted the bracket to the stands it could conceivably work, but it'd be wobbly

question

I have this system I use for 2- 9 ft paper rolls and it worked fine for awhile but now when I move the chains it isnt catching the rolls and unwinding as it should. I have tried taking it off and reinstalling and tightening and everything. any ideas on what could be the problem?
Asked by: Amy
There is a tension control on the drive without the chain to control how loose or how tight the drive will move. If this does not correct the issue, I would recommend speaking with the manufacturer by calling 212-594-2120.
