The unit only beeps when there is a power outage and you only have so many minutes to turn off your devices and presumably save your data that maybe lost.

If you install the software from APC and connect this to your computer, you can configure it to never play an audible alarm.

How do you change the batteries?
Hi,On the bottom of the unit, there is a sliding cover. Slide it off and it reveals the battery. The battery will half come out. The wires connecting the battery will come off - just use a bit of force as they are attached pretty firmly.
