For laptops how much protection is required is a matter of how you care for your laptop and risk tolerance. In most cases this should be fine.

The Laptop compartment for the Mobile Edge The ECO Messenger Bag (Olive), B&H # MOMECME9, can fit devices up to 16.8" x 11" x 2". It would not be able to accomodate the ASUS ROG 18" STRIX SCAR (dim: 15.71 x 11.57 x 1.21").
