The 6.5 x 8" Soft-Edge Reverse ND Graduated Filter Kit from Formatt Hitech contains three filters that are the way to go when you want to shoot a bright horizon line but want to maintain accurate exposure control between the horizon and foreground. This is an ideal filter for the nature or landscape shooter, as it can help save what might ordinarily be an impossible shot to capture on film or digital. Traditional graduated neutral density filters transition from dark to light towards the bottom of the filter. However, by providing a reverse effect, the Hitech Reverse Grad allows you to capture the brilliance of the sunrise or sunset while maintaining a controlled and pleasing exposure in your foreground.
Each filter is clear in the lower half but, as mentioned, graduates from dark to light towards the top. These filters are made from CR39 resin, and they are produced to exacting tolerances that permit you to change filters mid-shoot or from day-to-day and know that your image quality will remain consistent.
