  • 1Description

The digital camo LensCoat for the Canon 500mm f/4 IS II Lens from LensCoat covers the lens with a 100% closed-cell neoprene coat, offering protection from weather, bumps, jars and nicks. This protective coat allows the lens to blend in with your surroundings, making it useful for nature and outdoor photographers since it can help camouflage the lens from wildlife. It is also an effective accessory for sports shooters and photojournalists as it provides a thermal barrier, protecting your hands from the cold lens surface in lower temperatures. The digital camo LensCoat is an excellent cover when you're in the forest and need to disguise the lens from wildlife.

It includes a clear plastic window located in such a position that you will still be able to maintain access to all lens functions including reading the distance scale. There is a handy alignment hole that will make mounting the lens to your DSLR body easy.

The LensCoat is easy to install and remove, and leaves no residue on the lens. It is also waterproof, providing protection to your lens in harsh conditions. The increased protection this covering offers can help preserve the resale value of your lens.

A clear, flexible UV-PVC window allows you to see the AF/IS/VR controls and the distance-scale window
Features a custom hole that reveals the red dot, making for easy alignment to the camera body without having to remove the cover
Helps maintain value of the lens by protecting it from scratches
Makes the lens easier to use in cold temperatures
Easy to install and remove - leaves no residue on lens
Can makes the lens less visible during wildlife photography

    LensCoat LC5002DC reviews

LensCoat for the Canon 500mm f/4 IS II Lens (Digital Camo) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needs tweaking The window over the distance selector switch made it difficult to operate quickly and I had to cut it out with a razor blade. The hole for the hood lock knob is too small so that the fabric bunches up around the raised area the knob screws into. This matters because I line up the knob with the camera's hot shoe as a means to locate and track birds in flight and planes at airshows, and now there is a fabric wrinkle directly in my line of sight. I plan on taking the hood section off and enlarging the hole.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Well made but problematic for this lens This is a well made product, and will offer some protection from light bumps and abrasion. However, it is difficult to install on the 500mm f4 L II. The manufacturer recommends temporarily removing the lens'tripod foot to install some of the cover pieces. Once installed, access to lens' controls is covered by neoprene (for focus stop set buttons), or by clear vinyl windows. Controls can be moved, but it takes a lot of pressure to operate them through the vinyl windows. The biggest problem is that after installation, the diameter of the lens is larger due to the neoprene, and the tight-fitting Canon case requires a lot of effort to latch it closed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it i don't know about you but it never fails when i am out shooting some ex-felon type comments that looks like an expensive lens! with this on it is just another lens and i can say no it just an old lens i have had forever. works great for wildlife and to keep the lens clean for resale. i do not have to worry now about resting my lens on things and scuffing it up or getting it dirty. i have had no problems changing any settings with it on as other have commented.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wouldnt be without it Used a LensCoat on my 500 mm Mod I lens with great success so it was natural to put one on my new Mod II lens. It fits like a glove and the forest green camo should be great for my upcoming trip to Ecuador. I didn't use the piece that covers the focusing ring as covering black with dark green didn't make sense to me and I prefer the feel of the ribbed surface of the focusing ring anyway. Also didn't use the strips with adhesive backing to cover the tripod ring as had some problems with those strips on my Mod I lens coming loose. All in all a good product to protect and camouflage a big white lens.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lens coat It's a good way to protect your lens because the neoprene is thick enough to absorb most bumps and bruises. It fits very tightly so it's a little difficult to put on, but will never slip off accidentally. The downside is that many of the controls on the lens are covered up. The controls are visible through little plastic windows and some may be actually operated through the windows, but it difficult to do. There is also no provision for changing filters such as a polarizing filter. I have had to leave some of these parts uncovered, therefore defeating the purpose of total camouflage.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tight fit and lens cover won't fit I would rather this be made out of lycra than neoprene. It is EXTREMELY tight and hard to put on, and once on, the standard lens cap won't easily fit over it. I eventually got the Canon black lens cap over it, but the LensCoat curled down from the front of the lens. The drawing in the instructions of all the pieces and where they go appears to have pieces 2 and 3 flipped. It looks like they may have copied the drawing from another lens, like the 500mm I. The instructions are clear and helpful. There are 4 buttons on the forward lens barrel that are covered by the neoprene. You can still push these through the neoprene if you notice the three little tic-marks on the adjacent (towards the user) barrel piece to find them. For now, I took this back off and am deciding whether to use it or not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product that exceeded expectations Wanted to protect my investment in a 500 mm lens and at the same time camouflage it. The Lenscoat Realtree Max 4 covers accomplished both goals for me. The lens barrel is now completely covered and protected, and the transparent covers over the various switches (stabilizer mode, etc.) on the lens allows them to be seen and changed as needed without removing the cover. I was blown away by how nicely it fits, and it looks great too. I'm no longer paranoid about nicks or scratches on the lens body. Fair price, and as always, prompt shipping by B&H Photo.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Protection For Expensive Lenses This is my second time using LensCoat. I bought it several years ago for my first Canon 500/f4 and I just bought it again to protect my Series II Canon 500/f/4. All is not perfection. It does tend to fray its fabric on the leading a trailing edges of the coat. Also, I had a seam begin to stretch after a few years of usage. Also, I don't like the little plastic windows and cut those out, but would reather it be an option to purchase without those. Still, overall, this product protected my expensive lens through several years of usage and well over 100,000-shots and miles of trekking though the woods. When I pulled the old LenCoat off my old lens to prepare it for sale, all I had to do was wipe off some very light residue with a micro-fiber cloth.
