Hi! I use this frequently and never had a problem downloading. Unfortunately I have never tried to charge with it. I know the cable does allow this but it is dependent on camera model.

Yes, I've been using a cable to transfer all my digital photos & videos since I bought my 1st digital camera 16 years ago. Using the cable transfers/downloads the data directly into my laptop. And you only need the cable to do so. No need for a card, card reader, separate cable to connect, etc. I transfer data every night in my motel room when vacationing. Be sure you download camera software into your computer. You can also use the cable to plug your camera directly into your computer or TV. Then watch your videos or a slide show of your photos. Yes, the cable is much easier & offers you more.
