Evoluent VerticalMouse 4 Overview

  • 1Description

The VerticalMouse 4 (Wired Left-Hand) from Evoluent offers a new twist on the classic computer mouse: one that keeps your hand vertically in a "handshake" position while you're pointing, clicking and scrolling. That means your arm sits neutrally without twisting, which is intended to afford extra ergonomic comfort during extended sessions.

The shape of the mouse is sculpted for superior ergonomics, and the programmable buttons are easy to reach. Pointer speed controls on the side allow convenient adjustment of the laser sensor without releasing your hold on the mouse. There's also a thumb rest, which has been reshaped from earlier versions to offer added comfort. Top-mounted LEDs show through the chrome thumb rest to indicate one of the four selectable pointer speeds (extra low, low, medium and high).

Another feature that sets this mouse apart from the crowd is its lighted Evoluent logo, which turns off when the mouse is in sleep mode to save battery power on your computer. An extra-wide lip along the bottom edge prevents your last finger from rubbing the desk. Provided along with the mouse is a driver; Evoluent Mouse Manager for Windows let you program six buttons and extend the functionality of the bottom thumb button. This mouse has been tested to work with Windows, Mac and Linux based computers. Simply connect it using an available USB port.

    Evoluent VerticalMouse 4 Reviews

    VerticalMouse 4 (Wired Left-Hand) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but needs additional software On first plugging into my intel iMac, it would not work, then searching the Evoluent website, i found that they agreed and recommended two software plug in. The first- overdrive- caused the mac to seize up, uninstalling the software was a pain. The second, 'Steermouse' works, although I still have not been able to programme the buttons as I would like. It's working fine now ( I'm left handed- difficult to find suitable mice). Yes buy it, but realise it's not perfect, it does help with ergonomics.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from funky but great! This is my second VerticalMouse by Evoluent..the first I had for 5 yrs+. I'm right-handed but my dr recommended I switch to a left-handed mouse but couldn't find one that was comfortable that wasn't causing cramping in my hand until I found this one. The way it keeps your hand in a vertical position and doesn't allow you grip the mouse solved all the issues. Very easy to use. Only issue is all the buttons it has. I'm a Mac user so don't necessarily need them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy with my new mouse I have been using this for the last couple weeks. When I plugged it in to my laptop it started working immediately, even when relayed through a USB hub. It is light and easy to click. When I had a problem mapping some of the buttons to my keyboard's cursor keys, customer support was very helpful over email. They told me about www.randyrants.com/2011/12/sharpkeys_35.html and after I downloaded this (plus an older version of Evoluent software, v4.0.1) and used F-keys as intermediates, the mapping worked. Because the mouse is surprisingly expensive, there is possibly a business opportunity for others, depending on volume economics. But I'm very happy with the quality and the customer service, never to be taken for granted!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It delivers on the promise of a vertical mouse, but pricey Nothing to complain about. It's large and fills your hand. It's light. It's also pricey and wired. I always use two mice so I own the RH version that is wireless. I wish this was available as a wireless mouse. Vertical mousing seems to have removed some strain from my fingers but I don't feel it's reduced strain or on wrists or shoulders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only best mouse for leftys!!! Precisely effective for engineering CAD drawings. Customizable buttons are very useful for repetitive task that sometimes involves pressing buttons using more than one finger and programming it with just one click. I can only use my left hand because of injury on my right hand so this is a big deal for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as Advertised. I had my doubts when I ordered this, but since I started using it the persistent pain in my elbow has disappeared. The ergonomic design was the reason I got this, but I have also found the utility of the programmable 'thumb buttons' to be very useful. The one negative comment I will say about the mouse is that the buttons are too sensitive. Simply resting your fingers on the buttons will cause them to click, so I had to learn to keep my fingers away from the buttons between clicks, and I had to disable the bottom-most finger button because I could not keep from clicking it without great effort. Despite this one flaw, I love this mouse. I find it very useful, it has eliminated all my elbow pain, and it's actually kind of fun to use. I foresee the purchase of at least one more for the other computer in my office that I use regularly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product Bought this mouse 8+ yrs ago and finally had to buy a new one. Still a great product for someone who spends hrs a day clicking... Wish they had wireless left handed, but otherwise no complaints.
