Flolight FL-110HMD Overview

  • 1Description

The Flolight FL-110HMT Economy Fluorescent Video Light (110-240 VAC) is a great choice for a studio fixture when low price, high output, low running cost, and soft light are priorities. The FL-110HMD uses two 55W fluorescent lamps to give you an impressive 500W hot light equivalent. That's impressive enough, but it does it with minimal heat and a low power draw of only 100.6W. That means that you won't toast the talent while saving money both on kilowatt usage of the fixture and on AC costs that would have been needed when the hot lights you used turned your studio into a sauna. With a lamp life of about 8000 hours the FL-110HMT is practically maintenance-free.

The fixture comes with two 5400K lamps and a gooseneck mount.

Fluorescents give naturally soft, even light.
The FL-110HMD is perfect for studio or location work where power hungry incandescents can quickly overload available power. With just a fraction of the heat of incandescents you also avoid cooking your talent or constantly running air conditioning.
The FL-110HMD utilizes two 55W Biax lamps.

    Flolight FL-110HMD Reviews

FL-110HMD Economy Fluorescent Video Light (110-240 VAC) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good light for keying video... We use a set of 4 of these lights to light a greenscreen for keying. We light a 20' x 8' wall with no problem. These output enough light to get the floor as well which is about 8' long from the bottom of the wall. So far we have pulled excellent keys from the greenscreen using these lights. We have them suspended from the drop ceiling with some Lowel CM-20 scissor mounts and pointed at about a 30 degree angle. They are positioned approximately 6' from the wall and attached to the ceiling at approximately 8'-10'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light Weight, Powerful Beautiful soft light. This is a solid product, it produces a flattering soft light even when not diffused. It's very light weight, the goose-knack is flexible and durable. I use mine as a fill-light in combination with the Flolight FL-220AWD. I love this system and would consider buying another set of both. I didn't notice any major color temperature issues. Just make sure to let the lights run for a little bit before shooting. I find the FL-110HMD to be very affordable, and I much prefer the quality of light from these flourescents compared to LEDs in this price range on the market right now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LOVE THIS LIGHT It was sort of a last minute decision to purchase this light for a low budget psychological/horror short I was shooting earlier this month. We had very little money to rent a larger light kit for the days we needed so I figured I'd just purchase this light myself as well as for the production. It worked PERFECTLY for what we needed. It is a very soft source and meshed well with my LED light panels that I used with it. The size and bag have worked out well for me in Chicago where portability is key without a car sometimes on smaller shoots. Plenty bright for smaller shoots. Worked great for interviews that I recently conducted. Wish I'd purchased the next model up with higher wattage and dimmable options.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worth getting if it works I ordered 2 of these, and both didn't turn on, lucky I'm tech savy, so I opened them up and found that the cables of the ballast to the on switch weren't connected. Similar issue happened with another one. but once I connected them, they work flawlessly. The only bad thing about the construction is the flexable arm, if you are going for a symmetrical setup to get the catchlight you want, the flex arm maybe tough to get it exactly where you want.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good light on a budget This light is very lightweight and has decent light output. It doesn't seem super durable, the power cord is a little worrisome and the mount is a bit of a pain. But overall if you need a inexpensive lightweight fluorescent light this is for you!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad. Does what it says it will do, but not travel tough The light does what it is supposed to do but mine came with a plate that did not sit flush (manufacturing problem). B&H is sending me a new one. Fine for small indoor studio.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great-Light for a Low-Price I use this product on an occasional basis for Interviews and small scenes for the Non-Profit I work for. I like this light because I can pack up in my suitcase and take it overseas with me. If it breaks I don't really care because it is $ bucks. It also is nice generic version of a DIVA that we all love. No dimmer but the barndoors do a sufficient job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A+ Light This light puts off one heck of a punch. I've used it mostly for internal photo shoots, and just recently an external video shoot an hour after sunset. With a little camera work, this light made it seem like sunset was hitting as I was shooting! Awesome little light, definitely worth adding to your arsenal of grip gear.

Will these be flicker free shooting at 180 fps?
    Asked by: Mark O.
At 180 fps you will be fine. But with these lights do not go that much above. Then you could get some flickering.

Is the light as bright as its specs? It says that it is 660 lux @ 6' with 2X55 watt bulbs, where the Kino Flo 47 has 4X75 watt bulbs and has a rating 775 lux @6'.
    Asked by: Anonymous
It is a pretty nice light - good dispersion of the light and no flickering at all so very good for tv production. I think you would get the full effect of the 2 55W lamps. We tape a gel over the front (it makes a nice arc shape over the lamps) to match the color temperature to another flourescent in the small studio.
