    FEISOL CT-3401 reviews

CT-3401 Classic Rapid Carbon Fiber Tripod is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good and solid I use my new tripod as a travel tripod, I used it on two trips so far and had no issues. It set up fast and was solid. One comment on the bag size, the tripod fits in it with the long spikes and my head I trasferd over from my old tripod. I don't agree that it is to short as other reviews state.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well made tripod I purchased this tripod in Feb of 2007 and it has held up very well for the last 7 years. I currently have a large spotting scope on it. The quality of construction is excellent and I have no real complaints about this tripod. cheers

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, sturdy light weight tripod with some flaws. Pros: -No center column; tripod goes quite low. Those who need it for additional height can buy a standard or short center column separately. Being 5'6, its a non-issue for me. Camera viewfinder comes almost to eye-level when ballhead is included. -Very lightweight but sturdy. Tournament series tripods would be sturdier but costs $115 extra. -Anti-rotation legs with twist locks and has foam grip on each. -Has hook to hang weights. -Includes carrying bag and maintenance tools. Cons: -Legs doesn't rotate all the way around for carrying like the travel/tournament series tripods. Not much of a deal breaker. I use it mainly for travel. -No retractable spike in feet. Spikes are available separately as accessories but I haven't found a way to attach them. May be someone else here can point it out to me. -The hook does not retract. Works well with the Vangaurd SBH100 ballhead that I already had. Please note that it the tripod has a 3/8 screw mount. Overall, a good value for money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Possibly fragile poor European Support Little used item still under warranty when frame of tripod developed crack.. after considerable number of emails managed to get Feisol Europe to say they would honour warranty. Unfortunately have not received all replacement items needed and no longer receiving responses from emails...still need a replacement bolt to connect leg to replacement frame... Have many other tripods from most leading manufacturers all of which have been more heavily used and stood the test of time. My overall impression of Feisol is that it looks pretty on the shelf and is reasonably light to carry. But it seems to be fragile in use...opening one of the legs not too carefully may have caused the frame crack...similar problem not experienced on any of my other tripods over considerably greater time and use. Possible fragity of Feisol tripod is not helped by the time wasting antics of Feisol attempting to deny warranty responsibility.. Now left with 2 legged tripod and lack of responses to my emails for further part needed. My advice is to avoid Feisol (in Europe at least) and buy almost any other brand unless you can be sure that you never need to exercise any warranty or repair in Europe...perhaps things are better in the States and elsewhere?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy It's a little heavier then I thought it might be. Well made though and the leg locks are smooth. Sturdy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid and refined I received the CT-3401 for Christmas. I already have a Gitzo GT-2531, but wanted a tripod that folded shorter to fit better in my luggage. Thus far I have been extremely impressed with it. It is every bit as solid and refined as my Gitzo (even looks better IMO), and is a perfect match with the Markins Q10 ball head. Maybe because it is new, but the legs pull our and retract so much smoother than the Gitzo. Earlier this year, I had bought the Feisol CT-3442, which costs over $100 more. However, it just didn't seem very stable, possibly the result of more upright leg angles or the way the legs fold all the way back. But for whatever reason, it had significantly more vibration compared to my Gitzo model, so I sent it back. I feel like the CT-3401 is actually more stable tripod than the CT-3442. However, the CT-3401 is shorter. Which leads to my only issue about the tripod. B&H shows the maximum height at 51.9". However, it is actually only 50". While at 5'10" tall, I'm ok with its height particularly because I'm using it with a 2" Oben levelling base, it is still inaccurate and misleading information which really needs to be corrected on the website. If not for this I would have rated it at five stars, because I feel it is still a great CF tripod for the money.
