The CB-40D Ballhead with QP-144750 Release Plate from Feisol is a lighter weight ballhead that inherits the two-locking-system design of previous Fiesol ballhead models. There's one system to lock the ballhead sphere, and a second to lock the base plate for even greater stability. This allows for the added capability of rotating the base plate while maintaining a locked sphere. And the CB-40D is lighter and more compact than its predecessors. It also includes an integrated Panning Base. The CB-40D can be used as a lightweight alternative for heavy-duty tripods, or as a more heavy-duty ballhead option for lighter traveler's tripods. The quick release system is Arca-Swiss compatible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice ballhead The first time I took this ballhead out, I tripped on some slippery rocks and it came crashing down with me. It hit the ground (rock) pretty hard. One of the knobs got a little scuffed up, but the functionality remained the same, which is very very good. This is a a very smooth, well constructed ballhead. It's far superior to my manfrotto 488 RC4. I use it with the fuji x system, and it locks down any combination of that gear with absolutely no problem. Great buy compared to some of the other high end brands out there. (*ahem* RRS)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sturdy...But I use this head for a Nikon D600 with anything from a 14mm wide angle to a 400mm f/3.5 w/2x converter. This head locks down tight with no slipping. I find that swiveling the ball around is smooth but hard to feather between too tight and too loose. The mounting clamp came loose from the post, I had to remove the screw and reset it with LocTite. Now the problem seems to be resolved. Overall this ball head does what I want it to do..hold my camera rock solid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Ballhead I purchased this ballhead a couple months ago to use for an outdoor trip plus some studio work. So far it has worked like a champ. Very solid when locked down. Now that I am used to it, I also like the feisol system with lock and tension.I used it with a Canon system and their 70-300L glass as the heaviest combination and it held solid.I gave it 4 stars because of an issue when I got it. It comes locked down, and you have to go through and lossen it. When doing so at one point you loosen the tension so I rotated it until it stopped, only it never got loose. Finally after some emails with Feisol, I just cranked really hard past the stopping point (where the rubber grip started spinning loose) and it broke free and kept turning more. After that it worked great, but a frustrating start with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent head this head is perfect for a mid to large size carbon tripod, and works perfectly even with heavy medium format cameras such as the pentax 67. you don't need a bigger one. the control knobs are big and well located and work intuitively very well. I use it on a carbon fiber benro m-257 n6, which is a very very decent gitzo imitation.it lacks of any bubble level, which is a pity. the friction control only works when the head is locked, which takes a while to realize. but these are minor problems and this is a very good piece of equipment, sober, functional, straight, very photographic so to speak, and of course much less expensive that the somewhat over-rated arca swiss, achratech, rrs, kirk, markins etc ballheads, which are of course good stuff, but overpriced to some extent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, lightweight ballhead! My husband and I were in the market for our first set of tripod legs and ball head to take with us on our vacation to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I'm pretty OCD about things, so I researched everything EXTENSIVELY prior to making this choice. Our criteria were as follows: - Lightweight combination of tripod legs and ball head (no more than 3.5 lbs combined) - I carry our camera backpack with all of our gear (and my husband carries our hiking bag with all of our other items), so I needed a combination I would be able to physically lift and carry with us. - Arca swiss compatible - Quick release plate - Head and legs had to be capable of supporting our heaviest lens (Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS) and body (Canon 650D) with no creep. - The head needed to be compact enough so that the legs of our Feisol CT-3442 could fold back over it for storage/hiking. I was frustrated when first starting my research, because all of the forums I initially found exclusively recommended RRS ball heads, or Photo Clam ball heads, among others. All of which were simply out of the price range we needed. Once we chose our tripod legs, I looked through the Feisol website, and this was the ball head that they recommended for those legs. There weren't very many reviews of the ball head on B&H's website (or elsewhere), and even though I typically rely very heavily on reviews, we went out on a limb and purchased this ball head...and we could not be happier with our choice! The operation of it is very smooth (it glides so nicely), it is very sturdy and solid (even though it is very lightweight), and it locks solid (I was never concerned that our camera wasn't surely attached to the tripod legs). Our tripod and ball head were lugged EVERYWHERE with us, and were both used daily during our 2 1/2 week vacation, and this head performed like a champ (so did the tripod legs - see my review on that product as well)! It was lightweight enough for me to carry with no issues, yet our heaviest lens (Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS) combined with our camera body (Canon 650D) were no problem for this combination! In closing, this has proven to be a fantastic addition to our camera gear, and one we would HIGHLY recommend!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not for panorama! Be careful before you purchase this. There's no bubble level. That's sold separately. Also there's no accessory for panoramic photos to eliminate parallax effect from this company. Hence, I now regret buying this brand's products. Other than that, built quality is sturdy enough. Handled my abuse pretty well (Beaches, rock climbings, extreme hikings..etc). I use it with CT-3342. People say it's light but I disagree. (BTW this tripod will not fit in your backpack). Overall if you are an average photographer I can suggest it. However if you are thinking to use it for real estate, panoramas..etc, look somewhere else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changing my photography As a caveat: this is my first ballhead, so take it with a grain of salt. I've been using a pan and tilt head or years, but this is so much easier to sdjust, I find myself wanting to use my tripod more often, which is, of course, improving my photography. The friction is easily adjustable to support the camera even when not clamped down, and the clamp is not difficult to crank down. I'm using this with Feisol CT-3442 legs, Canon EOS-6D, and lenses up to 70-200 f/2.8L.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feisol CB-40D tripod head is superb Product is used with my Manfrotto 754 carbon fiber tripod for landscape and portrait photography. The double locking system absolutely prevents slippage of either camera or large lens. Great that Feisol supplied an extra quick release plate which I use for long lenses, in addition to my Really Right Stuff plate for the camera. Construction and design are first rate, and at a reasonable price. Very impressed.
