The N4800 4-Bay SMB NAS Server from Thecus is a small but powerful server storage solution for your home or small office network. While no hard disk drives are included with the server, it can hold four SATA I/II 3.5" or 2.5" hard disk drives. With your drives installed, you have the option to format them in a RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 configuration that can be encrypted, or as a JBOD. So as to transfer data quickly, this Thecus NAS is the first server to utilize an Intel Atom D2700 processor. It also has 2GB of DDR3 RAM. In addition, and to the same end, the server is capable of utilizing the iSCSI protocol. You can also more efficiently allocate storage space with the iSCSI thin-provisioning.
With all of this speed, you can use the server in a number of different ways, such as a media server, backup server, FTP server, TFTP server, and printer server. As a server, you can also limit file folder access to multiple users. For connecting to your network, the server features two 10/100/100Mbps Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 LAN jacks.
As a nice added touch, the server comes with a variety of different ports for connecting other devices. It features a SD/SDHC/MMC card reader on the front so that you can directly upload multimedia content from your digital camera, smart phone, or other card-supported device. It also features two USB 3.0 ports on the front so you can instantly copy contents from a USB drive as well as two USB 2.0 ports on the back for connecting peripherals such as IP cams, printers, and disk drives. Plus, it features an eSATA port on the back so that you can expand your storage capacity. This server supports Windows, Mac, Linux, and UNIX clients, making it an excellent option for home or small business networks.
