I hand carry my camera and 500mm lens. I have a strap connected on one end to the camera and the other end to the lens (on the tripod foot). Would I be able to carry my camera and lens with this cover on it? Thanks.
You should be able to do this. I have used it on a 200-500mm zoom so it should work on a 500 fixed lens.

It should be fine. I cover my D500 with the 200-500mm just fine. The Velcro bottom seam should allow total head opening variability.

You should be able to do that using the LensCoat RainCoat Large Sleeve (Black), although it may be difficult, since you can't really see the lens barrel.
