It appears that the front of the Canon ES-52 Lens Hood is threaded, for the purpose of attaching filters to the front of the lens hood? If correct, what filter size in mm. Canon ES-52 Lens Hood will attach to the filter thread, on the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM. What filter size will attach to the front of the ES-52?

52mm filters mount on top of the hood as recommended by Canon. Mounting filters this way avoids any possible vignette issues. I was using this hood and filter combination on full-frame format with zero problems.

Yes! It came in Canon packaging and fit my 40mm pancake perfectly. Great design that keeps the flare out while still keeping the form factor small.

question

What order should i wasfor the filter on my 40mm filter then hood or hood then filter?
Asked by: Anonymous
I installed the filter first, then the hood but i will reverse it now that ive gotten a few other filters to allow me to change them faster. The hood doesnt really provide any optical benefit since the hood doesnt extend much farther than the actual lense. I keep the hood on just for physical protection. .
