Hahnemühle 10640735 reviews

Varnish For Canvas Inkjet Prints - 1 Liter (Satin) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Protection / Nice Finish I have used spray lacquers in the past, and never cared for the smell, but they were easy to use. I thought I'd give the Hahnemuhle Varnish a try. It is water based, a plus...has no odor, another big plus. I first followed the recommended application using a sponge roller. The product went on rather thick even as I went back and forth in different directions. It also stippled. And looked even thicker and unnatural after the second application. Then I used a brush, a cheap throwaway brush you buy at the hardware store. I applied using brush vigorously in a cris cross fashion. I liked the brush strokes, and this is how I plan on using it in the future. Important: directions say to stir for a long time, do yourself a favor and STIR for a long time, and between coatings too. I used chopsticks (2 together) to eliminate splatters, but you have to stir to get rid of the solids that form when the product sits. Stir, do not shake, you may not like the bubbles that form on your prints.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Happy with Results I'm new to varnishing, but have used this with one brand of canvas and linen prints over the last couple weeks (seven prints). I've been very happy with the finished product. The gloss is very nice, to my eye, and the colors of the prints have been subtully enhanced. The finish is very durable when dried. I have not had any problems with lines showing up, which is apparently a problem with several products on the market. I obviously can't say what long life effects will be with the prints yet.If not for my experience level (haven't used other varnishes) this would have been a five star rating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Be Warned !! - I learned a hard lesson. I used this product 9 to 1 mix with distilled water to varnish a canvas inkjet print that had dried for 5 to 7 days. I used Kodak smooth matt canvas on a Canon image prograf printer. OMG!! I watched in horror as my dark blue ink came off on the sponge roller and was spread everywhere! The bottle says that you should allow your print to dry for 24hrs! It also says that it is ideally suited for Hahnemuhle canvas. If this product is that picky about what canvas it can be used on, they should spell that out in BIG CAPITAL LETTERS ! They don't say if it is suited for pigment or dye inks or both. In all these utube videos that show people using spoonge rollers to apply varnish to inkjet prints, they are not saying what type of ink they used and how many months of drying time was incurred. With the ink spread all over the lighter areas, it did dry and leave a nice satin finish on a ruined image.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent For Enhancing and Preserving Canvas Prints I am printing 17x22 photos on Canon 400 canvas and applying Hahnemuhle Satin varnish using a 6 Fine Finisher foam roller. The first coat is applied using horizontal and then vertical overlapping strokes making sure that there are no void areas. The second coat is applied after about 15 minutes in the same manner. The varnish is self-leveling as long as the edges of each overlapping stroke are not prominent. The second coat dries to the touch within an hour. There is very little odor while applying and drying. After applying the product, as described, to 12 prints about 1/2 liter remains, and because it is water-based, cleanup was easy. The end result is that the finish has a soft gloss, blacks are deeper, colors more vivid and details are more pronounced. I very pleased with this quality product.
