RDL TX-8A 4 and 8 Ohm Input Interface
Key Features
  • Transform Amplifier Output to Line Level
  • Bridges 4 and 8 Ω Speakers
  • Converts Levels from 0.5 W to 400 W
  • Bridge Input into Existing Amplifier
The RDL TX-8A 4 Ohm/8 Ohm Input Interface is a mono audio transformer that can convert the output of a 4 or 8 Ohm amplifier into a line level input to be sent to an audio mixer or second amplifier. The transformer's frequency response extends low enough to make it suitable for feeding a subwoofer amplifier input. For situations when interfacing between a stereo output to a subwoofer input, two TX-8A modules may be used, one from each side of the stereo output signal, with their inputs combined as the subwoofer input.

RDL TX-8A Overview

The RDL TX-8A 4 Ohm/8 Ohm Input Interface is a mono audio transformer that can convert the output of a 4 or 8 Ohm amplifier into a line level input to be sent to an audio mixer or second amplifier. The transformer's frequency response extends low enough to make it suitable for feeding a subwoofer amplifier input. For situations when interfacing between a stereo output to a subwoofer input, two TX-8A modules may be used, one from each side of the stereo output signal, with their inputs combined as the subwoofer input.

The front panel level control of the transformer allows you to adjust the input power voltage to -10 dBV or +4 dBu. The unit can handle between 0.5 and 400 W of operational power and can be wired to output either balanced or unbalanced signals.

For easy wiring, the unit features detachable terminal block connections. To couple the audio input to the audio output, the transformer features bifilar coil windings. To prevent ground loops, the device is built with galvanic isolation. For convenience, the transformer may be mounted on the sides of a rack or on the rack rails using RDL's optional TX mounting accessories.

RDL TX-8A Reviews

Great Line Level Interface

I am a professional commercial sound designer, technician & installer for 48-yrs. I have on numerous occasion need to operate another amplifier for another zone & can not run a new cable due to impossible to get from the sound rack to a zone. To do this I installed the added amplifier in that zone area, but you can not connect a speaker level to a amplifier input due to damaging the zone amplifier,to do this correctly I always used the RDL TX-8A which connects to the 8ohm speaker & will pad the speaker level down to line level which will operate the new amplifier without distortion or over driving the input, This is a must for an amplifier which you have no choice but come off the 8-ohm speaker, this unit will handle from 1~400-watts from the speaker... if using a commercial 70V line speakers use the RDL-TX-70A which is for 70V line, do not use TX-8A on a 70V speakers line theTX-8A is only for 8-ohm speakers.. I find B&H Photo normally have these in stock & will ship on same day, I always buy these from B&H Photo for all my sound needs...

Could this bring up the level of an old Rhodes 76 to line so I could plug it straight into a set of studio monitors? DI box?
Asked by: Michael
The RDL TX-8A 4 and 8 Ohm Input Interface is not suitable for connecting the Fender Rhodes 76 piano to studio monitors. The Rhodes has a 1/4" output with instrument level signal, like a guitar, and it does not have an amplifier built in. You can either use an active DI box or a preamp, and the output from either device will provide a line level output signal that can be connected to active (powered) studio monitors.
