The USB end plugs into the computer, and one of the connections on the other end plugs into the video device. The other end features RCA Composite and S-Video connections. Compatible devices include TVs, DVD players, VCRs, cameras, and video game consoles. The VC500 provides a convenient and cost effective way of saving old VCR footage.

The included software pulls up on the computer and lets you know when to begin capture, at which point you would press the one button abovementioned. Additional to capture functionality, the software also has basic editing and DVD burning functions and is capable of publishing directly to YouTube.

VC500 One Touch USB Video & Audio Capture for Windows is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 43.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth my time After many hours of effort, reloading drivers, 2 computers using different OS, I have nothing to show for it. I tried both cable configurations, S-video never worked at all, and composite gave me double image. Finally found a combination of VCR, cable, computer that worked and it recorded for about 10 seconds, then it quit and displayed a message Copyrighted material. The thing is, it was a video tape of old home movies that were not copyrighted, so this item found yet another way to defeat me. Stay away from it, it's just a waste of time. I'm sorry, but the nicest thing I can say about this product is that it comes in a pretty box.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Why are these things so difficult to use I have a lot of software and hardware experience; I edit video and audio, create databases, upgrade and downgrade, solve lots of tech issues. My many computers are Win 7, Intel i5, etc etc. Still, I can't seem to get these Video Capture devices to work as advertised. I originally got the Elgato USB device - couldn't get it to work at all (on several computers). Returned it for the Diamond VC500. On every capture the audio and video became increasingly out of sync. Tried different setting, looked for hours on sites to see if there were any fixes. No go. What DID work was to let the VC500 play the video (Hi-8 analogue) and I used the shareware Recordzilla (which I already had and used) to make the capture. That works fine, but it is most certainly not the way it's supposed to go. Really, I swear I know what I am doing, and I am flummoxed to see how many good reviews these devices get. I cannot figure out what the issue is, but there you go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works OK, Software is a little buggy I use this device to transfer my copy protected VHS tapes to DVD. The quality in the DVD end product is acceptable and given the price of the VC500 this is a pretty good deal. Do carefully follow the installation instructions and ensure that you install the driver from the CD. The software itself is a little buggy. When you make software setting changes, you need to be aware that the setting changes will not become active until you restart the software. If you're not comfortable and somewhat proficient at using your computer and software products then this product might give you a frustrating experience. I used the windows movie maker software to edit and make the final DVD.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product has problems It doesn't work on Windows 10 even though it has compatibility mode - I followed the install instructions - step 1 is load the driver which seems to mess up everything. With compatibility mode on the EZ grabber software changes the Display settings for the laptop(it goes back to normal when you close EZ Grabber) and a black panel appears for the EZ Grabber screen. Sound plays when VCR is runner but no picture and no recording - Encoder Internal Error: Stop: -2. I think I'm going to have to recover my laptop and reinstall everything (all software and products I've ever installed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from hardware good, support and software ??? Ripped a VHS tape to a video file on my PC. The hardware works as advertised. The EZ Grabber software that came with it doesn't. Fortunately, they included a copy of ArcSoft Showbiz software that will work. Don't bother with using EZ Grabber. Also, be careful installing the driver files. Their directions do not work and look as if they were written for WinXP. I have Win7 which does not install drivers the way they wrote in their instructions. Had to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them from disk without connecting the hardware to get it to work. Their directions do not point this out. Read their forum for the issues folks have with the installation and you'll see what I mean. I would recommend this product, but with reservations. If you aren't technically savvy, get a friend who is to help with the installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing does what it says! Pulled some video from an old VHS and created MP4, and MP2 with it. Captures audio and video. Strangely seems to Recognize copyright material sometimes, but isn't consistent. Anyway, this does the trick. The record button on the device is pointless, because the software effects the capture. I didn't mess with the editing software so I can't speak to that, I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 to pretty up my videos. I*!Oh also, it comes with the RCA cable, but my camcorder has 3.5 mm out to RCA, so I had to get a separate cable, but the device has the RCA female, so it will be compatible when I get my new cable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from VERY dissatisfied with this product and product support I purchased this product because after looking at several other brands, the Diamond One Touch had the overall best comments and reviews by far. The price also indicated a good value. I have now spent many hours unsuccessfully attempting to install the software on two different computers. The steps and illustrations shown in the Quick Start Guide that comes with the software doesn't even match what you actually see during driver installation and it appears that the actual software is missing from the CD installation disc, so it cannot be installed. I contacted Diamond from the website indicated for technical support, received confirmation and a ticket number with a message that I would be contacted within 48 hrs for assistance. It has now been 6 days and no reply. I will return it tomorrow for a full refund. Don't waste your time and money on this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not satisfied with the video quality. It was a shot in the dark thinking technology is now better and cheaper. It's worse than my 10 year old USB video capture device I'm trying to replace. I wish I could recommend a better unit but I'm still searching for one. Most likely will have to shop in the $150 and up HD video range.
