Yes, you can use a matt. It is thick enough.
Note the frame window is 8x10. So with a matt you will crop an 8x10 print or you can use a smaller print.

The 8x10 frame is for 8x10 size prints without a matt.
It is really made to not use a matt. If you did use a matt, the print would need to be smaller or would crop the print.
