The Luxbanx Small Octagonal Softbox from Impact is a highly versatile tool for strobes, LEDs, and fluorescents. This 36" diameter softbox is large enough to exhibit the wrap-around light quality that this octagonal shape is known for, yet small enough to use in tight spaces. The softbox features a soft white interior, removable front diffuser and removable inner baffle. The diffuser and baffle can be used together for maximum softening of the output. Removing the inner baffle will give you a more crisp light quality with higher contrast, while shedding the front and inner diffusers turns the Luxbanx into a large reflector with maximum brightness and contrast.

The octa Luxbanx has an additional control via the optional fabric grid which mounts to the recessed lip of the softbox with touch-fasteners. The grid narrows and concentrates the light's beam forward, controlling spill and adding directional control to the Luxbanx's attributes. The large surface area of this octagonal-shaped softbox gives you a unique wrap-around quality of light that gains emphasis as you move it closer. Catchlights in the eyes of your subject are round and natural. Every Luxbanx comes with a carrying case and a spare Flex Rod. Separate purchase of a speed ring that matches your strobe's mount is required for use. Impact makes models to fit most popular brands.

Luxbanx Small Octagonal Softbox (36") is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, soft light! I use this softbox as my key light for headshots and portraits. I generally use it with a Canon 580EX flashgun with the internal baffle (included). It produces an even, soft light on my subject's face. After using this softbox as my key, I don't want to use anything else. Setting this up the first time can be a little bit of a challenge if you've never done it before. Do yourself a favor and practice setup/tear-down BEFORE you go out in the field. After you've done it a couple times, it'll become second nature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great With Speedlights Within Limits The build quality features are above that expected in this price range. Impact provides a spare rod, nice touch. Assembly can be eased by color coding the end tips of four rods that are ninety degrees opposed, making their select for placement in a speedring far less confusing. I purchased this unit for use with a speedlight and assumed that the 36 inch models was about as large as could be evenly lit by such a small, rectangular light source. I tested the Luxbanx using a Phottix Mitros+. The tests included using the speedlight with and without its diffusion dome, and the Luxbanx Octa with and without its inner baffle. The only evenly lit combination included both the diffusion dome and the inner baffle (see photo). Both suck light away. Nonetheless, at five feet, ISO 100 and full power I was able to get an ideal histogram at f5.6. Smaller f-stops or greater distances would have required a higher ISO. This assembly was pieced together using an Impact Bowens Speedring, and a Raya Bowens Speedlight Stand Mount (see other photo). I recommend them both.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for portraits Read the instructions while you assemble. Not hard to do and the instructions will help you get done faster. Not for travel. Well, if you leave it assembled it will fit in your trunk or back seat of a sedan. Love the soft light. I have the grid of course so the light doesn't spill (a most have if you care about getting a photo the way you want it. Strong construction. The light distribution is up to you and the light that you are using of course. If using a speedlite set it to a wide beam (that is what most folks forget to do).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Soft Box For The Money After reading one review about this box being hard to put together, I was concerned, but after receiving the box, it is as easy as any softbox to put together. Quick and simple. Good quality material and great results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as advertised Great sofbox for small areas and in the studio. Difuses beautifully. Only issue was putting it together - it's annoying but once it's done it's great. Not so good if you are on the go - you would not want to have to take this apart over and over again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great durable build - a little difficult to assemble This softbox feels super legit. The material is durable and substantial. I paired this with the Impact speed ring for bowens. It is a bit tough to assemble because of how tight and snug the softbox gets when putting the poles into the speedring holes. However, this is a problem for most softboxes. I guess it comes with the territory. The light quality is very soft and diffused. I also purchased the grid for more control. There is velcro around the white surface for easy assembly with the grid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new favorite modifier I am extremely pleased with this 36 Octa so far. I went ahead and got the grid to with it and I have been very happy with the quality of light in my head shots and new born photography. I love the catchlights you get with the octa over a rectangle softbox. The front diffusion panel and grid are very easy to put on and remove with velcro around the edge of the box. Some people have complained it is a bit hard to setup, but I didn't think it was any more difficult than any other soft box. Obviously with the Octa you have some more rods to get into your speedring compared to a rectangle, but the circular catchlights are worth it imo. I love the quality of light with both diffusion panels on, but I am eager to try it without the front diffusion to see how punchy it can get. Just need the right subject. I would recommend this softbox, especially for head shots, portraits and new born photography. I haven't tried full body shots with it, but I would expect the falloff to be pretty high towards the feet and I'd want another light or larger softbox like the 60.
