The Dinkum Systems COMPACT lens shade works as a French flag for DSLRs and small video cameras. The aluminum flag is attached to a 10-link, 7.5" long adjustable arm that secures into the camera hot-shoe bracket. The flag is 7.5 x 5.5" large, and it securely and precisely protect from lens flare, dust, and drizzle. Setup is fast and easy.

Note: Although the arm is length adjustable, good alignment and significant pressure is required to reattach the links. The COMPACT lens shade is not interchangeable with the other heads, bases, and additional links like other Dinkum Systems products are. Additional links are not sold separately for this product.

COMPACT lens shade is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very Good Except that Gooseneck The concept of this is fantastic and PERFECT for what I need. The shade itself is great quality and exactly the right size. But the gooseneck and shoe mount are really cheap, poor quality. The gooseneck was too long for me, so I removed some links, but getting it back together was almost impossible. It needs a better gooseneck, something with more flexibility. The shoe mount is just cheap plastic, I anticipate it will break soon. The good news is both the gooseneck and the shoe mount should be easily removed and modified using better parts. It's still a good piece of gear, and I like it. Just no the quality I'm used to buying.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful, but has some drawbacks The articulated arm is very stiff... like really stiff. The good point is that once you set the angle, the arm will stay there even when the wind picks up. The bad point is that you just about have to take it off the camera or cage to set the angle. Maybe the articulated arm will loosen with use, but mine is not there yet. If you use this on your camera's hot shoe, then you will not able to use a flash to light up the harsh shadows on your subject who is standing in the bright sunlight. All thing considered, this is a useful product. I take a lot of photos and video on the beach and this lens shade has saved the shot a few times. It is worth the trouble of figuring out the best way to use it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from a Potentially good product. I have a Nikon 14-24 lens mounted to a D800. I'm a professional real estate photographer. I needed a product to prevent lens flare from this ultra-wide angle lens. I think the product is well made, and will serve its purpose. However, it does not have the length needed, to provide adequate sheilding. I contacted Dinkum, and they suggested I purhcase a second one (which I did), to cannabalize it, and extend the articulating arm. I'm expecting the second one in the mail. I think this is a potentially winning product. But the manufacturer, needs to provide additional links (not currently available for purchase). Secondly, having a moldable flag (similar to a rogue flash-bender) would allow a greater degree of cusomization. The fact that it is a large, flat and sharp object, makes it complicated to pack, without damaging other accessores in one's bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great with superwides The wider the lens, the greater the flare. The Dinkum compact lens shade is the answer in many cases. Example: photographing 2-story home with camera extended 9-feet high on a lightstand. Can't use your hand there! Even at eye level, one frequently needs both hands for other things. I don't use it often, but it's real handy when I do.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it does There's really not much to explain here as to how it works. However, the flexible arm is a couple links too short for larger cameras. I had to buy extra links from the manufacturer. I wish they would offer a longer flexible arm option because it wasn't easy putting those extra links on!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great BUT , and will buy another Product is strong, flexible,in general well designed, use two to be more efficient, BUT BLACK paint scratches very easy, I solved the problem adding Black gaffer tape on it .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little tool! I love this tool! I am an architectural photographer and am always dealing with lens flare issues. This guy is GREAT! It is easy to connect and easy to store away.
