I color calibrate my monitors, and I use ICC profiles for my specific printer and paper stock. So why would I use 3rd party ink that can vary in color, or possibly clog my jets? Yes, this has happend too many times, it's not just academic. Anyway, Canon ink is beautiful, always consistent in color, and it's never clogged my printer even after months of not using it. And that's worth paying a bit more.
