KanexPro HAECOAX overview

  • 1Description

The KanexPro Audio De-Embedder with HDMI Video Output extracts the audio signal from an HDMI input and outputs it through a TOSLINK, Coax, or stereo output so the signal can independently be routed to a sound system. At the same time, all three signals of the HDMI input -- video, audio, and data -- get output through an HDMI output. The HDMI input supports resolutions up to 1080p/60 and computer resolutions up to 1920 x 1200.

The TOSLINK and Coax outputs are both SPDIF digital outputs that support 5.1 channels of surround sound audio, as long as the input has 5.1 channels. The stereo output is a two-channel output. A selection button lets you choose whether to output by the SPDIF outs or the stereo out. If you choose SPDIF, and you have output cables connected to both SPDIF outs, the De-Embedder will automatically output over TOSLINK. So if you'll want to output by Coax, just make sure that only the Coax output has a cable in it.

  • Extracts audio from an HDMI input
  • Outputs extracted signal independently (to a sound system)
  • Outputs through a TOSLINK, Coax, or stereo output
  • At the same time, outputs the full HDMI input through an HDMI output
  • Support 5.1 channels of surround sound audio
  • Supports resolutions up to 1080p/60

Audio De-Embedder with HDMI Video Output is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing device! With this little gem I will be able to copy all my 53 SACDs to a NAS. I have tested it and the KanexPro de-embedder transferred perfect 24/176 SACD audio from a blu ray player with HDMI output to coax. Thanks KanexPro!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performs extremely well! I connected the de-embedder betwixt my laptop and a Lexicon digital processor (sans HDMI) to eliminate the D/A conversion in the laptop via headphone jack, and an A/D conversion in the Lexicon processor. Works exactly as advertised and saved me from purchasing a new digital processor. Perfect! Now I can play my CD's and watch NetFlix eliminating two conversions. One note not covered in the manual...the unit must be plugged into a HDMI output in order to operate (i.e. will not extract digital audio otherwise} Not a problem for my installation since I connected the output to my TV.If you want to keep a high-end non-HDMI capable processor, this unit provides an excellent solution for $. Great value!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works. Small form factor. Solid. I use a Roku 3, Samsung TV (LCD), and Vizio (newest, 01/2014) sound bar system. My TV does not pass thru 5.1 audio to the optical and coaxial digital audio connectors. This De-embedder was a solution to extract/direct audio straight to the sound bar, skipping the TV. Though not the cheapest version out there.I like the solid metal case, and that it's small. I also like that it has both the Optical and Coaxial digital-out options. The LED light is bright! For sound bar users that have roku 3 (or other web streamers) or very basic DVD players that don't have separate digital audio out connections, this is the set up.IMPORTANT NOTE: This device DOES NOT DECODE ANY AUDIO, it just passes it through. So, if your sound bar (like my Vizio) can't process Dolbly Digital Plus (DD+, which Netflix and Vudu use), you are still out of luck and will have to choose 2 channel audio (within the netflix interface), use a DVD player that does decode the DD+, or buy an full-on audio receiver. I haven't found a way to force vudu to do 2 channel audio from within their Roku interface.Bought this at full price (about $, Jauary 2014)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as described I've bought this one after reading detailed product review with actual test results. Knowing that it really extracts the 192kHz sound and seeing it in operation confirmed good quality of the product. Although it offers 5.1 and 2.0 modes, it defaults to stereo mode when powered on (that's what I need it for), so I gave it 5 stars and strongly recommend to anyone.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 5.1 channel irregularities Pros: This audio de-embedder will indeed allow you to use an old stereo using analog outs, S/PDIF, and TOSLink. Output is bit-perfect, and the LED indicators showing status are handy, but there are significant caveats.Cons: The unit has a soft switch to change modes rather than a sliding switch as competetor units have. It does not remember the last state when it is powered down. On power up, it defaults to 2 channel operation. This is contrary to the mfr's suggestion that says it powers up in 5.1 mode. Also in 5.1 mode, HDCP is NOT supported.Other Thoughts: I don't know why mfrs of these devices fail to publish the actual modes these units support, making it impossible to compare units. IME, they are not the same, I am now on the third one, each has been different. The EDID for this device shows:2 channel mode: 16/20/24 bit at 32/44.1/48kHz sample rate, max 2 channels, HDCP supported5 channel mode: 16/20/24 bit at 32/44.1/48/88.2/96/176.4/192Khz, max 6 channels(!), plus DTS and Dolby Digital, but HDCP is NOT supported.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with the new Apple TV AppleTV took the fiber audio output out of their new box and this allows you to do a digital audio out which is fantastic!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Doesn't down-convert multichannel audio to stereo? I just bought this and cannot seem to get it to work properly for my application. I need to pass multichannel audio through to my sound system, but need to extract analog stereo for a headset device. Seems this mode of operation is not supported... I can only seem to get it to work if the HDMI input is stereo, but that compromises the rest of my system.
