Nikon HB-N106 overview

  • 1Description

The HB-N106 Lens Hood from Nikon is a bayonet style accessory lens hood designed specifically for the 1 NIKKOR VR 10-100mm f/4-5.6, AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G, and AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lenses. The primary purpose of a lens hood is to deflect unwanted light from entering the lens and causing flare. In addition, a lens hood provides a degree of protection for the lens from accidental impact and from precipitation. A dedicated lens hood is built to fit the focal length of its lens and provides sufficient extension to deflect stray light without intruding into the frame.

HB-N106 Lens Hood is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nikon HB-N106 Lens Hood What can you say about a lens hood?  I purchased it for the refurbished 18-55mm AF-P lens I purchased a while ago.  Its a great lens (a significant improvement over its predecessors), but it didnt come with a lens hood.  The HB-N106 Lens Hood fits perfectly and snaps on snugly without any movement or vibration.  Im very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You Found It! Yeah, this is the hood for your AF-P 18x55. Sure, its double the price of a knockoff, but it fits cleaner and snugger than the knockoffs on my other Nikon glass, and the build quality and design are matchless. If I loose this somehow; which wont be in use since it fits so tight; Ill gladly buy another. And yes, its the finger-poke-polarizer style. Do it for sure!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Enough Not a perfect fit for my 18-55 lens, but to be fair, Nikon's website stipulates that this lens hood was designed for the 1 NIKKOR VR 10-100mm f/4-5.6 and that it is only "compatible" with the AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens. So I presume this means it should not be a perfect fit (literally) with my lens. Which it's not. It's a little loose. If you want a perfectly tight fit for the 18-55, Nikon doesn't make one, as far as I know. My AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR lens came with a dedicated lens hood, one made for it, and it fits tight as a drum. But this HB-N106 is not quite as solid as one would hope--at least with the 18-55. So only four stars. (P.S. B&H says a one-year warranty comes "in the box" with this hood, but no such warranty was in my box.)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from HB-N106 Lens Hood Work only on 1 of the 2 lenses, and are pretty loose when on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality material I originally bought the Vello brand (for almost half price). I returned it, since I bought the wrong size, and went with Nikon. The difference was huge. The Nikon material thickness was almost twice that of the Vello, which felt flimsy. Glad I went with the Nikon hood. I learned best to call B&H if I have any doubts on model compatibility!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always Buy Nikon Products I tried to substitute a Velo product with bad results. It did not fit and the plastic quality was definitely below Nikon. I know... I have built electronic products in molded cases for 30 years....the Nikon part is thicker and of a superior quality of plastic. That is why it costs twice as much...attention to detail and production standards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect This is a perfect fit. Its just right and makes a big difference when the light is on your side or almost in front. It increases color saturation by cutting down glare. Fits backwards so that it is out of the way for storage. A great compliment to a superb camera. I tried the knock-off version but it was not a good fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Money Well Spent I use hoods on all my lenses. If they are not included with the lens, I am always willing to bear the extra cost of getting one. Besides preventing flare and ghosting, they do add some protection to the front element of the lens. I like the hoods that bayonet and can be stowed in reverse on the lens.
