The Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone is compatible with Handycam camcorders, Cyber-Shot cameras, Alpha/NEX cameras, and any other camera that has a Sony Multi Interface Shoe. The Multi Interface Shoe passes the audio directly to your camera, so no additional cable is required. For use with cameras that don't have a Multi Interface Shoe, you can connect the microphone to the mic input jack on your camera using an included stereo mini-jack cable. The directional angle of the mic capsules can me manually adjusted from 0° to 120°, allowing you to fine-tune your audio capture according to the setting. Plus, an included windscreen enhances audio quality further by cutting down on wind noise pickup.

Sony ECM-XYST1M Reviews
Use wirelessly on Sony A74, but good for other cameras too
It's great not having to use a cable when attaching this mic to my A74. It also includes a wind muffler and a cable for attaching to other brands of cameras (I use it with a Nikon Z9). I'm not a sound quality expert so I won't comment on that. However, one downside of using it wirelessly with the Sony is that it puts the Sony in an automatic sound leveling mode. You cannot adjust the sound recording levels on the camera once this is attached and uses the shoe for data. If you use the cable with the mic on the A74, you can then make manual audio adjustments. I think this is really more of a design issue with the A74 (and some other Sony cameras) than the mic itself.
worked well
Good sound from musical performance. Easier than setting up peripheral mikes and a mixer
