Gossen Digisix 2 overview

  • 1Description

The Gossen Digisix 2, is a lightweight, digital, incident exposure meter for ambient light with a very small form factor and a myriad of features that will virtually assure it a place in your camera bag.

The meter's EV value is measured and indicated in the digital display and then transfered to the setting ring. All the useful shutter speed and f/stop combinations can be read at a glance.

The meter boasts many useful convenience features such as a timer function for measuring from 1.0 second to 30 minutes, a watch (adjustable for both 12 or 24 hour display) and an ambient temperature thermometer which can be set for either Celsius or Fahrenheit. The lowlight sensitivity of the Digisix 2 allows accurate measurements in low light such as twilight scenarios.

    Gossen Digisix 2 reviews

Digisix 2 Light Meter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Light Meter This is a brilliant, small and lightweight meter. It is super easy to use either as an incident meter or as a reflected light meter. Just flick the dome to change from one to the other. It reads in light values and it is very easy to read the corresponding aperature and shutter choices. B&H were great, the meter came perfectly packaged. I recommend both B&H and Gossen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tiny meter does the job! I needed a meter to use with my growing collection of cameras without internal meters, or with broken meters. I chose this one due to its compactness, and the Gossen name. It does not disappoint. The smallest meter I have seen, smaller than I expected. About half the size of a pack of cigarettes, and weighs almost nothing. With the (somewhat overpriced) accessory shoe-mount adaptor the Digisix-2 slides onto my Argus, Retina, Canonet, and several others. In that use-mode, the D2 is brilliant and I can't think how it could be improved. It's accurate, matching the meters in my Nikon D7000 and D600 when those are set to center-weighted metering, never more than 1/3 EV variance. One-handed use is a snap. No need to line up dials with a bouncy needle, you point and click the measurement button, the D2 reads in EV on the LCD, and you move the exposure dial a few clicks to find the 10 or 12 proper combinations (the only flaw in this meter is the small size of the EV numerals on the dial). All in all, a winner, especially for the size, accuracy/reliability, and simplicity. Recommended above everything else in the market, unless you have need of flash metering, or other specialized functionality. A very good meter, and with the shoe-mount adaptor it is peerless for cameras with dead/no meter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little exposure meter Not cheap, but there are not many alternatives if you want a little exposure meter that fits in your pocket. Reflective and incident light measurements, all you need basically. The large analogue scale show all possible shutter speed/aperture combination for a measured EV value. Great little tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Digisix 2 Light Meter by Gossen This is a nice compact light meter, you just have to be careful about which mode your are in, because the mode button is exposed, and can easily change.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great basic light meter Works for me as a DSLR shooter. You can't turn it off, but it is supposed to last a long time on the battery anyway. Dump the lanyard immediately, it broke the first time I used it and sent the meter to the floor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Adequate I have several cameras that do not have their own light meters. This one works just fine. The only real negative is the battery tray: it's a little plastic frame one pulls out of one end of the meter, into which the flat battery is placed. It took several minutes of fighting to get that tray pulled, and I'm good with my hands. Otherwise, it's fine.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Made Germany - but not up to that standard The light meter is small and I believe will meet my needs, but it did require adjustment. When inspecting the product after unpacking, I noticed a large gap near the bottom. Since I didn't want to go through the hassle of returning the product for replacement, I decided to open it up to see if I could get it to close properly. This was no easy task as the screws were glued in place. Eventually, I was able to open and readjust to case closed. I would not have expected this type of shoddy workmanship from a product that was labelled made in Germany.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small & Practical - would buy it again Use with my RB67 film camera - ambient light only. Easy to use, accurate and fits in your pocket. You don't even feel it if you hang it around your neck. The only drawback is psychological: no on/off switch, so your mind is always on the battery life.
