Nikon 35mm f/2.0 overview

  • 1Description

One of the most popular focal lengths, the AF NIKKOR 35mm f/2D from Nikon is a comfortable wide-angle prime featuring a bright f/2 maximum aperture along with a compact, lightweight form factor. The slightly-wider-than-normal field of view along with the f/2 design excels in a variety of shooting conditions, ranging from landscape to street photography. A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements, and reduces lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy when working in bright and backlit conditions. Also, a rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Wide-angle prime lens is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/2 maximum aperture offers depth of field control for working with selective focus techniques.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Autofocus system is compatible with select Nikon DSLRs that support D-type lenses, and offers quick and precise focusing performance.

Autofocus is not supported by DSLRs lacking an autofocus motor, such as the D3000-series, D5000-series, D40, D40X, and D60, where the lens may be used with manual focus only.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

    Nikon 35mm f/2.0 reviews

AF NIKKOR 35mm f/2D Lens is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 206.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific lens I'm a people photographer and I do the vast majority of my 35mm format with this lens. I've had two copies of this lens. The first was soft wide open, though it sharpened up once stopped down a bit. My current copy is very sharp in the center wide open. My first copy didn't seem to flare any more than usual, while my second copy flares a lot (the price I pay for better sharpness, perhaps). This is a highly versatile lens, allowing me to do portraits with some amount of environment around a person while also giving me the option to put the background out of focus. The ability to focus closely is an important part of this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My cornerstone lens What can I say that has not been said, this is a small, fast and very sharp lens. In the world of big dollar zooms, where you are looked at kind of funny if not sporting one, Nikkor prime lens' especially this 35mm 2.0 is truly my cornerstone lens. I firmly believe that one should frame the shot, and although nice, zooms make us a tad lazy. Low light, flat light, great light, this lens does it all. I love it being a D so I can set the lens on infinity, aperture priority on f7.1-f11, switch to manual and fire away. Some of the greatest photos in the world has been shot on primes, the 35mm being a huge part of that, so why can't I ?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maybe old but certainly not outdated While many gearheads are asking Nikon to produce an updated version of this lens, I am not convinced that that is necessary. I received this lens a few weeks ago and have used it for various occasions. Great for outdoors, very sharp, wide aperture works great to blur backgrounds out, excellent contrast and very natural colors. Used it even for a portrait shoot, worked very well, clients were very pleased. Shot with and w/o flash at a Christmas event, worked like a charm. Lowlight shots were a breeze with this lens. Overall, I dont see the need to upgrade this lens, very sharp, good contrast, very quick focus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens I'm in the same boat of people who started out with a 50mm 1.8 and got tired of backing up a lot to get a shot of groups of people. Dont get me wrong - the 50mm 1.8 is a must have but as I've now discovered this 35mm is a perfect brother to the 50. Quality wise, I dont see much difference between the two but it does perform very well. Just as sharp as the 50..perhaps a little sharper depending on your settings. This is an excellent lens for lowlight conditions and gives you just enough room to fit in everyone in the frame. I find myself shooting with this 35 along with the 50 indoors. Great lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The new standard. This is in my honest opinion a must have for any Nikon DSLRowner, with an effective 53mm focal length it makes it agreat and my only recommendation for use as the new standardlens for DSLRs.It's fast, light, great performance across the board and theprice is amazing.Try to find yourself a Nikon HN-3 hood for this baby also, they are hard to find out of production metal hoods designedfor and only for this lens, but well worth it to protect theoptics. It's not so much needed because of the lenses greatflair performance, but it offers piece of mind.Highly recommended. Items I Recommend: Nikon HN-3 Metal Hood

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A secret gem Yannick Khong turned me on to the secret of low element lenses and this is the second gem I purchased. The other being the 105/2 which is more difficult for me to use (specialized, I suppose) but has that same rich tonality and three dimensional image rendering. The market may be moving to f1.4 and everything sharp! but that does nothing for me. I want timeless photos of my family and this lens is my precious. On my D750 it's as light as could be. Good AF. Files that require little work in Lightroom. And files that gives me what a crave, depth rendition that is life like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from oh wow, 35mm -- who knew?! What a great little gem this lens it. Top quality for a reasonable price which is so rare with lenses. It's so versatile as it is wide enough for landscapes and tight enough for some creative portraiture. I shoot products and food and I'm including a sample so you can see what this is capable of. Obviously, none of us want to switch back and forth between lenses which is why we typically get the 24-70mm or 16-35 which are great lenses! But fixed are just better plus you're getting almost a full stop more light on this than the zoom lens and for the price I love having a few inexpensive fixed around that I'm not scared of breaking to backup my 24-70mm. The best part about them is that they are equal if not better than the same focal length on the zooms! Great buys.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this lens as much as my 18-200 VRII This little lens is, in my opinion, as much a do it all on my D300s as my 18-200 VRII. Since buying it, this has replaced the 18-200 as the lens that's always mounted on my camera. I use it indoors, outdoors, for great shots at the beach and a local state park. Wherever and whenever I feel like shooting, I start the day with this lens. Fast, sharp, light, and just gets out of your way and lets you take great pics. If you're willing to move around a bit, and not rely on zoom, this prime can and will do all you ask of it and more. A bit soft wide open, but that's a small price to pay for all it does well.
