A versatile medium telephoto prime, the AF NIKKOR 180mm f/2.8D IF-ED from Nikon complements its reach with a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture for working in difficult lighting as well as controlling depth of field. Its optical design incorporates one extra-low dispersion element, which controls chromatic aberrations and color fringing in order to achieve greater clarity and color accuracy. A Super Integrated Coating also helps to improve contrast and color rendering by reducing flare and ghosting. In addition to the optics, this 180mm f/2.8 is also characterized by its internal focusing design for quick and precise autofocus performance.

Does this lens have a protective rear glass? To keep dust, etc from getting into the lens as newer lenses have. Thanks.
Asked by: SERMET
The Nikon AF NIKKOR 180mm f/2.8D IF-ED Lens does feature a special protective rear glass. When the lens is not on the camera the rear lens cap is the best protection to prevent dust etc.

question

I keep reading about purple frigging w/the Nikon 180mm f/2.8, what is the story about this?
Asked by: Frank S.
The only situations where the cromatic abberation apperars is when you have a stong light source that meets a dark area. In the wider aperatures f/3.5, under close inspection it can been seen. With Nikon Capute-D or photoshop, it can be eliminated with the click of a mouse. This lens is a world-class phojournalist/pro photographer standard medium telephoto that is no less than a stellar performer.

question

I have a question on the AF-S function, on the specs it states the auto function in the lens is not compatible with the DX3300. could you explain this a little more? I want this lens for personal use in sports activities to capture players at bat, outfield etc. I will need the focus to be continuous. Will this lens work?
Asked by: Mechelle D.
I do not believe this lens will autofocus with either the D3300 or D5500 camera bodies. The lens does not have an integrated autofocus motor so it requires body to have a motor; that should be why it is an AF lens and not and AF-S. The compatibility really has more to do with the camera body than the lens. This is an older lens design and all the new lenses from Nikon are AF-S. This is a big, heavy metal lens that looks and feels like it is from the 1960's, but it takes beautiful images. I can verify that it works very well with a D7100 as I also am using this lens to capture low light sports.

question

Can this lens be used with the FM10 manual camera?
Asked by: Anonymous
As the Nikon Telephoto Nikkor 180mm f/2.8D AF ED-IF Autofocus Lens has a manual aperture ring, yes, it would be compatible for use with the Nikon FM10 35mm film camera.
