question
The back button on my grip fell off after about a month. Do I send it back to B&H or to Vello?
Our return/exchange period is from 30 days of the original purchase date. If you've had it less than 30 days you should contact our Customer Service Dept to set up a return/exchange. If past the 30 day mark, you would need to contact Gradus (which is the parent distributor company for Vello products) and they will take care of you. question
There is a Mini USB beside the locking wheel which is covered by a rubber. I am wondering what is that for?
The mini USB port is for connecting a USB cable to the grip for recharging the rechargeable EN-EL15 battery.

question
I have my D7100 set up for back button focusing with the AE-L/AF-L button, but the battery grip button isn't providing focus?
The model should provide that focus. It sounds like there is an Issue with the Grip. My apologies. If your purchase of this model is in 30 Day's of ordering you can return the model full refund or exchange through our Customer Service Department. If it's past the 30 Day's you can contact Vello directly. The model is under warranty. Again, my sincere apologies for this. question
Can I use the grip without the battery installed when I want to use camera in portrait mode?
Not on the D7200. It doesn't work without a battery in it.

question
If you set up the battery order usage in the camera menu so that the camera battery is consumed first, it is then necessary to return to the menu after the camera battery is exhausted to engage the Vello grip battery, or will this happen automatically?
It's automatic.

question
On the front of the Vello BG-N11 D7100 grip there is, what looks like, a small USB port. What is this for?
It is a port. You plug one end into a plug charger (similar to a cell phone charger) to charge the battery without taking the battery out of the grip.Or, back in the early digital days, we had to plug our camera in to our computer to DL our photos. That is why you get a 2.0 usb plug with a smaller camera plug on the other end when you buy a new camera.

question
I have my grip for a little over a year now, and I am experiencing a problem of occasional power loss, and then I need to take out the battery drawer and put it back in. This usually solves the problem for a (short) while. Anyone else experiencing this?
I am seeing a similar thing. It will switch to camera battery until I open and close the grip battery door. It is infrequent though.
